Remove this ad There seems to be a resemblance here between these 2 seasons in paradoxical suckiness-turned-awesomeness. The twists suck. The season is hard to follow. Most players' storylines are all over the fuckin place - you feel like you don't have a clue who any of these tools are. No loveable standouts pre-merge, and lots of negative edits. Location is dull, it's always cloudy out, and everyone's clothes have acquired a brown dirt dried shit-stain color. And then comes the magic. MARCUS VOTED OUT. (Think = Leann, only difference being I liked Leann and I hate Marcus) Predictability turned on its head, and all the freaks band together and surge ahead to the endgame. Strategery city. I don't think the two are the same at all... Vanuatu was boring but had some great characters. This season started out not having such great characters but is starting to. Also, I think Gabon is probably one of the most beautiful locations they've ever had.

Some of you fucktards gave up on it because of some stupid ass spoiler that said Marcus would win even though it was as obvious as ozzy or rupert not winning, but I digress. Vanuatu wasnt bad either, that was also sucks negativity projecting onto a season that was actually good. Besides, almost all survivor seasons take until the merge to be great.

Posts: 52 (11/08/08 03:14 PM) Reply Quote More Recent Posts	I seroiusly have been saying I had a feeling this was gonna pick up post-merge.And it does have the vibe of Vanuatu...which is great because I really loved that season..it gets a lot of negativity on this board but it's one of my favorites because people had BALLS to take risks and change the game, unlike in Guatemala where everybody kissed Stephanie's ass and nobody had the balls to get rid of her.This is the same thing that's going on in Gabon where players dont act like sitting ducks a la Kucha....when they see they're in the minority like Ken was they wise up and PLAY the damn game, instead of lying down and taking it.I think we're gonna see a lot of blindsides and surprise boots this season.

Anyone calling it boring probably yearns for OTT Rupert type characters instead of more average folk.

Remove this ad Gabon is reminding me more of Fiji, except if Fiji hadn't made the editing so blatantly obvious. You have a string of predictable pre-merge episodes (boring tribe wins, obligatory Exile Island footage, cluster-fuck tribe consistently loses, invisible girl goes home). Then things get interesting around Episode 7 (Rocky's boot in Fiji; Ace's boot in Gabon). And personally, I thought the Fiji post-merge rocked, even though the winner was predictable. So I have high hopes for Gabon, because it's not predictable at this point.

The premerge of Fiji was actually the only time I ever really considered stopping watching Survivor. So far, Gabon has had a bunch of interesting characters, a couple of great blindsides, and considering that it's following Micronesia's post merge, it's doing pretty well.

Pre-merge sucked, but I don't think there's been another season where the people I hated were eliminated in such grandiose fashion. With the exception of Michelle, every boot from Rocky to Stacy was someone who I immensely disliked by that point and wanted to go home. Yes, we knew Earl was going to win, but the dynamics of Dreamz's bat-shit insanity was also fun to watch as it played out.

Remove this ad Aside from the Leanne and Ami boot episodes, was post-merge Vanuatu that great? The finale and the winner were underwhelming, to say the least. I still hate the way Twila was treated by the jury, I don't care how bad her social game was. My favorite episode of that season is the double boot where Mia was tossed out. I think this season is like a somewhat better version of Thailand. The Marcus episode is the type of thing they probably wanted to happen in Thailand's fake merge, instead of what we got (two episodes of predictable boots and tons of filler).
