In March 2002 they were filming the Africa finale in Los Angeles on a Sunday, and I said to my wife, "Hey I bet a lot of the Survivor alums are in L.A. this weekend. I bet they all flew in a day early and are all doing tourist stuff. So let's go see if we can find some."

So we headed out to the Santa Monica Pier. I figured, well if anyone comes to L.A., that's as good a place to visit as any.

We sat down on a bench by the carnival rides, and I swear to God it wasn't more than five minutes later that Rudy and Marge Boesch wandered by. One minute we're sitting down, and the next minute I say, "I think that's Rudy." We were very excited. So I called over "Hey Rudy," and he looked over and waved to us. I yelled that I was a big Survivor fan and he waved again.

That was the end of the exchange because I didn't want to go hassle him or anything. We just left them alone. So Rudy and Marge left. And that's when my wife said, "You know, we probably should have said hi to Marge too. That was kind of rude. I mean, Marge was on the show too." She felt bad about it. She felt so bad that we actually went over to find them again. But we lost track of them in the crowd and never did get a second chance.

To this day, my wife feels bad that she didn't say hi to Marge that day.
