It doesn't hurt to check out your alma mater's job placement office as well as their career counseling center. THEY OWE IT TO YOU TO GET YOU EMPLOYED

had.
Best $50 I ever spent when I was 25 years old was for a series of tests taken at the local women's center to help me decide what the hell I wanted to do with my life. The resulting choices I made increased my salary by 600%. |

Lauren, I'd look into the teaching-thing a little more before committing to it. Demand for teachers varies a lot from state to state. It's a good gig
in some areas of the south and west that are still growing, but it can be tough in the midwest and east. There's not a lot of growth, and teaching is
heavily unionized, so when there are layoffs, it's the younger teachers that get cut, while the old shitty teachers are impossible to fire.
A lot depends on what other jobs are out there. If you can find a job that you like, I think that's better than committing to spending money to go back to school in an uncertain area. And don't forget the secret to true happiness: Marry well, dammit! |

Really? Psych sucks? My friend Abby wants to major in Psych and I thought it sounded interesting too. She's really smart though, so she'll probably
goto grad school.
Guess I'm back to hoping I don't hate Chem next year and go into an engineering program and if I do hate it, Major in Business/Minor in Linguistics. And I say go for the Masters, it'll be better in the long run. And teachers have sucky pay. |

Uhhhh.... teachers definitely do get laid off. My county schools just lost $50 million and have to shut down several schools in December. The teachers
don't even get to finish out the school year and the students will be redirected to different schools. Classroom sizes will now be 30+ students. The
laid-off teachers won't be able to find education jobs anywhere until at least next September. Teachers do not get paid well and schools continuously lose
$$ and therefore important educational programs. As someone in the education field I can say with a certainty- if you aren't passionate about education and
kids, don't get into teaching.
eta: Most teachers I know have their masters anyway because it's only a year more of school and the pay hike is worth it. |

When our local schools want to save money, they talk the older teachers into taking an early retirement, so they can hire a new teacher at a lower pay. But
they still have to pay off the old teacher.
Subs make at least $100 a day! you might want to check into that in the mean time. |
