Just look at the South African, Canadian, American, British and Australian competitors that made it far in the Superstar INXS and Supernova competitions! And I really believe that especially for the first one, it was the most talented and popular singers that made it far, and those that performed poorly were eliminated. You just have the voting public vote in the bottom 2 or 3 and then leave it up to the judges. I think the thing that will bomb this show is Michael Flatly as host/judge.. whatever. ugh.

Totally agree. You don't get a professional dancer to host a show. You get a professional host. That's why DwtS has Tom Bergeron. The guy doesn't know jack about dancing, but he can run a show like no other: keeping things on time, adhering to the script when needed, and ad libbing when necessary. Plus, since the host is also a stand-in for us viewers, you want that person to be more of an everyman regarding the subject of the show -- not necessarily an expert.

His co-host from TRL (I guess), Susie Castillo, was pretty cheesy and pretty awful. She showed a lot of skin, though, so many will be happy. As for Nigel, he was SO annoying at the taping. In the words of his Stage Manager, "He thinkks he can tell an audience how to be an audience." It is quite obvious that he does not trust the taste of viewers. That said, based on the Finale of SYTYCD... he may be right, but is not better himself. Had NO idea who the int'l judges were, though some were quite fun at the taping.

Oh you didn't just use Tom 'grand fromage' Bergeron as an example of good hosting?!! No no no no no, on a myriad of levels. Cat Deeley would be a far better example, and I would even give you Ryan Seacrest, but not the king of slime Tom on a pseudo dancing show. The more I think about this show, the more I think it will be less like SYTYCD and more like 'Dancing with the has-beens, or never were'.

Ireland was up first with Riverdance. I always love me some good Riverdance. First solo is Robert the Popper! His moves are so freaky and fun to watch. The judges weren't quite as impressed.

And, co-host chick is just another generic pagent chick. PANYA! ETA: They look damn. good. But I'm not sure the judges will be all that impressed with the choreo. Though they did it well. Yippee! Sadly, I didn't enjoy the Zulu dance. The headlights, black boots, and trash cans just didn't work for me. I didn't catch much "native" about that at all. So far, the only dance American has had was solo - Robert the Popper. Yes, Pasha and Anya from SYTYCD performed the couples dance for Russia. I'm enjoying watching the dances more than considering it a competition. eta: Ugh, I didn't care for the solo Zulu dance either. I guess I've watched Zulu Dawn one too many times. Geez, this show has the most incompetent/inept cameramen. They're either focused way out too far or zooming in on their faces when I want to see their dancing. Their entire body in the dance, not just a single body part. They're trying to hard to be fancy switching from camera 1 to 2 and back, but come on. Last Edited By: VolumeOn 01/04/09 9:19 PM. Me too. Though I'm getting different kinds of kicks out of watching the jidges. My favorites so far are, in no particular order: Argentina gal, S. African dude, Mr Cool (aka Chinese jidge), and Russian guy. The Irish and Indian jidges seem to have a bit o' stick-up-the ass syndrome going on. American jidge is ok, but I think he's obviously trying to come across as the "nice guy" who doesn't want to give anyone a lowish score. Aussie chick, whatev.

I've been watching the tivoed and I'm about half an hour behind. It's pretty good, I love the Chinese judge. He kicks ass. Didn't love their soloist though.
