For the last few seasons, at least, both trainers have consistently tried to influence whom their team voted off. The only reason we haven't seen Jillian doing it recently is that her teams have not had the numbers to control the outcome. But remember when she went off on Isabeau for not voting the way she wanted?
I suspect it goes on even more than we're shown.
I guess the reason we got that captioning of Bob's comments was that we'll see him throw a shit-fit next week when he finds out how they voted.
BTW, thanks to EW (as noted in a post from this afternoon) the outcome of the elimination vote was totally spoiled.

I don't have a problem with the trainers encouraging their teams to vote in a way that would give the team the best competitive advantage. In that instance, Bob's desire to win is in total alignment with the interest of his team. I did have a problem last season with Bob cajoling that Purple Team daughter into keeping Vicky around when it was clear that that vote would directly hurt her. That was an instance of Bob's desire to win was in direct conflict with one of his own team member's chances of winning.
