I am ready, I think, for the weather shock. I am sooo ready to wear sweaters and have seasons. Culture shock because there is actual culture there? cool.

There is no culture here!!! Christ modest theatre and ballet. but Christ no CULTURE.. its a fleece, keens, crocs place.. people are unfriendly, the traffic is
shit, the service in bars and restaurants non-existent.. incredibly expensive for what you get... I wish I still lived in San Francisco.. hell I lived in West
Oakland and it was better.. this is not the place for everyone.

Trust me, compared to Hawaii, there is culture.

Drunken lumberjacks - suicidal weather, and the worst - too far removed from anywhere interesting. Yer welcome in advance.
Overrated. Next. |

It is heaven except for the traffic...really sucks.
Bellvue is a very pricey suburb across lake Washington.. Good luck if you can afford to buy there. It's a bit drizzly, but you really come to appreciate a sunny day! If you are coming from Hawaii....hope you hate sun |

I have to agree...any culture is better than here.
The price of living has to be waaaaay less than here. Looking online and with our realtor we can get a sweet house with some land on Whidbey. |

Well there is no culture on Whidbey honey its not near anything... have you ever even been here before? I suggest you visit and spend a week here in February
before you come here and live out on Whidbey with no idea or friends, etc on what its like.. and yes its cheaper than Hawaii but again don't move to
somewhere without understanding where you will be living, commuting time, neighborhood.. you don't just zip out the door and are in a city with nightlife
etc.. you need to learn the lay of the land.. and this is one of the most challenging areas in the country.. dark 7 months of the year, very grey, and people
who are not the most "social"

Glam...we are planning on being there soon for a week. We will look at all areas and houses and stuff. We have a few friends out there that moved from here. It
wouldn't be by choice...Mr. Nolo's job will move us there. I don't care about nightlife. I really care about restaurants and shopping (among other
things) We do love anyting outdoors (climbing, fly fishing, skeet and trap, skiing...)

Well there is no shopping or restaurants on Whidbey.. try Bellevue that area is probably more suitable and close to the mountains you could drive to the Pass
in an hour or so.. there is nothing on Whidbey.... get your bearings and see what its like.. drive to Whidbey at rush hour that hour plus commute to that area
and that wait for the ferry is a nightmare..
Bellevue would be your best bet.. |

Yeah, I wondered about the traffic around the ferry. Also thinking it might be a nightmare x2 on Friday or before a long weekend. I heard the power goes out
all the time over there too.

what kind of area do you like to live in?
Suburbia? Go live in Redmond, Kirkland or Bothell etc. Suburbia but upscale with a touch of life? Go live in Bellevue. City, but not main city center? Go live in West Seattle Main downtown fun areas (the only good way to live)? Go live in Downtown or Capitol Hill. Young youthful areas? Go live in University District. Upscale 20 and 30-somethings singles area? Go live in Belltown or Queen Anne. |

Its a little tiny nothing.. you are confusing island with an island in Hawaii.. its a sweet little place north of seattle with nothing more than a store or
two, a little coffee spot.... there are no shops or sweet bistros.. we would go to our cabin and hang out... and its got nice "cabins" but its not
Maui honey.. islands in Seattle are challenges to get to, you drive, sit in a big line and are on the ferry for all of two minutes are dropped off to drive all
of 10 mintues tops to a little "town" and that is it... it would be hideous to live there with no friends or family nearby.. its not a quaint groovy
hipster place.
And power goes out all over Seattle.. PERIOD.. we have tremendous wind and rain storms a couple of times a year...at least if you live in city its less likely but the futher out you live.. not fun.. All I can say about that "summary" of Seattle's neighborhoods. HIGHLY LACKING.. someone must be gay and not have a car.. no one over 18 would live in the U District.. that is a PIECE OF SHIT... that is the hood for UW students not adults with half a brain

my power hasn't gone out in the last 2.5 years here, even during that big storm.
LIVE IN THE CITY! Anything outside Seattle main is sucky. |

Ok...well I thought Langley had a good size town with a "feel" to it. Quaint with coffee shops and bookstores and such. I'm gonna get out there
and hate it, huh?

nom...we don't want a HUGE house but we do want some land so our 3 dogs can run. Def. don't want in the city. No way want suburbia. Some of the places
are on a few acres and look really nice. These are in Langley,Clinton, Coupville.....

Having spent the last 10 years every holiday on Langley.. well it has a coffee shop, it has a bookstore, the general store called the Star store and it all
closes at 6.. its not something from a televsion show.. you would be very lonely and bored out of your skull..
There are more "neighborhoods" and you need a car here to find them all.. you find your niche.. rent a corporate place in the city for 6 months and then find the right place after you have lived here for awhile.. I had to wait a year to get to my hood and it was worth it.. but in a city that is not a "city" you really need to make sure you know exactly where you want to live. Lake Sammamish, Issaquah they are "rural" but not.. they are close to Bellevue which is urban but you still have room to live.. now with declining real estate values you could pick up a rather large property and have the best of both worlds.

These places outside of Bellevue Mr. Nolo says are a nightmare with Mcmansions and stuff like that. Now, he was only out there for a few days and maybe
didn't get a feel for it. B Trust me, the place i live now has NOTHING in the way of restaurants. Stores close early and they roll up the sidewalks at 8pm
