I guess Nolo is getting out of Hawaii before her living room becomes the Pacific ocean.

Trying to fris... It's funny because I get such opposite reactions to Whidbey. No grey area there.

I read an article this week about how Hawaii is going to accelerate their program to stop emitting greenhouse gasses, it will be an ambitious program. It
means zero oil.

What about Magnolia? Isn't it a nice-ish burb close to downtown? I'd be askeert having to drive across the lake to Bellevue.

Belltown first, then Queen Anne, then wherever...

Magnolia is hideous.. not fun to commute from.. and they want land around their home not inner city living.. so Belltown is hardly somewhere with three dogs
would live.. Queen Anne either.
They could find some property in Shoreline, Lake Stevens area that is still within the city area and not as remote.. but in reality Vashon or Bainbridge would be far more suitable than Whidbey.. easy commuting... but I would live in Kent/Auburn first if I wanted land but still near the freeway to get somewhere the thought of hitting I5 and sitting in that Lynwood/Edmonds/Everett commute would be hideous... driving over I90 is a cakewalk in comparison. |

Whidbey is very small, and hard to get to on three day weekends. I would like living out there, but then I don't mind being alone. There is a naval base
there, so there are people, but it's very small town.
If you want a house with acreage, you could go to Snohomish, which is about 30 miles northeast of Seattle, or you could go to the Pennisula and live in like Bremerton. Or Carnation, out past Redmond. But there seem to be a lot of murders in Carnation for some reason. But yeah, Issaquah is nothing but a McMansion suburb, and a very expensive one at that. Bellevue is mega expensive. Even a shitty little 1000 square foot house would be close to a million, and that's with no yard. Where is your husband going to work? Commutes are really bad around here. But we are nice!! I don't know why everyone is saying people in Seattle aren't friendly. We are very nice. I've never had anyone be rude to me. |

Obviously you don't follow real estate. Bellevue has fallen 23% in value of housing.. you couldn't get anything in the city of seattle
"desireable" hoods under 500K and now even they are hitting the lower end.. Real Estate like everywhere is losing its overpriced bullshit...
And people are not rude but they are not friendly or social here.. northwesterners are very cliquish and loners... go to a coffee shop and see how everyone is lined up with their pc's, headphones on and not speaking.. go to a bar and try to strike up a conversation with the people around you they won't speak to you.. The Seattle Freeze is well known all over.. people are "nice" to your face and are very passive agressive here.. And I would not live in Carnation or Snohomish.. in that case live on Whidbey.. those areas are white trash hicks... hence the murders.. at least Whidbey has city folks with weekend houses.. Paul Schell has a pad there and runs the Whidbey Island Inn.. Bainbridge or Vashon.. those are better and closer in.. stay away from that "mountain" shit... you go to far outside the city limits and its fucking Deliverence.. Here is a little you tube on Seattle Freeze www.youtube.com/watch?v=roC_nsdyi1I

The main office is in Bellevue and another in Woodinville. He wouldn't be "in the office" that's just the headquarters. You guys i really got
the impresson that Langley was a cute little town where i could find my gays. (yes I'm a fag hag-chaser)

Uh you have to be kidding.. if you are going to work in Woodinville and Bellevue.. christ that commute would kill you.. The only gays are ironically in the gay
mecca of Kent (or so they keep telling me) or in the city of seattle itself on Cap/First Hill... Seattle is a small town not fucking NYC with Whidbey the Fire
Island of the area...
I am sure there are gays in Whidbey, but I doubt it.. there is not even a gay like pub. As I said drive 20 minutes outside of Seattle.. HICKSVILLE |

I thought the commute wasn't that bad. Well we will be out there hopefully right after Christmas. I do have to say that the ferry doesn't blow my skirt
up. Sure it seems cute for the first week but after that...

bellevue office = you better live in redmond, bellevue or seattle. anywhere else would be yucky

Sorry...is Redmond $$$? That YouTube video about the Seattle Freeze was just sad. I mean the people featured seemed a bit odd and awkward.

Suburbia? Go live in Redmond, Kirkland or Bothell etc. That's where I live! Seattle is a beautiful place. It has a lot of very different and interesting people. It's also surprisingly clean. |

redmond is where all the microsofties live, so yes it is $$$. but not as much as bellevue or seattle. the more boonies you go into, the cheaper it gets

I agree I would be living on the Eastside.. prices are going down, the economy even here is tanking. And yes that is how people are here.. loners, wierdos,
social misfits... They resent "outsiders" and many people who relocate here find themselves sticking with others not from here originally.. its a odd
odd city, always was always will be. So don't add to your problems by living in the boons.. you need to live where you can get out at least and have the
superficial contacts people have here and call "friendships"...
I grew up here, left and came back.. I am under no delusions of what type of city this is... even our "gay scene" is marginal at best and actually kind of pathetic. This is not some sophisticated place its where tatted, pierced and the largely blue collar come to die. |

I'm beginning to understand the "feel" of the place. I think the thing sounded great about Whidbey was you were out in a remote area but still
could get to the city pretty easy for a dinner or shopping. The restaurants in Seattle are pretty great, huh? The best we have here is Sam Choy's family
style BBQ. (not that great) You can't even get any good fish in the market. I can't explain that one...we live surrounded by some of the best fishing.
I am also very impressed with Seattle having a Free People store and not one but TWO Anthropologies. That has to say something. Is there a Dean and Deluca
there? Please keep in mind that I am coming from nothing. The supermarkets hre suck. The shopping is pathetic. The weather is getting increasingly lousy due to
the constant vog. Any change would be a welcome one. We aminly want to get off this rock. 10 years is long enough. If Seattle doesn't work for us we can
move in a few years.

Do you think Seattle is Manhattan? What the fuck? Dean and Deluca.. no. Again if you wanted Whidbey good luck with all that..
As for Seattle we have Whole Foods and the more absurdly overpriced Metropolitan Markets... I think the food scene here is overrated and service sucks.. and depending on where you live no.. only decent places are in Seattle city the burbs have nothing but your usual chain shit and sometimes an odd place in a strip mall. So for you this place is heaven for me who has lived in real cities its a dump. I wouldn't know what the fuck is a Free People store and whoopee that we have two Anthropolgies again those are in the City.. honey we told you over and over there is nothing outside the city.. we just got H&M three months ago and people went insane for it.. cheap crappy clothes.. meanwhile we are finally getting a Niemans and we have a third rate Barney's.. the "fashion" here is a joke.. you live in Crocs or Keens, some fleece shit from REI and jeans. that is pretty much it for wardrobe.. I wore Manolos once and someone asked me if they were "real" as they heard about them on TV.. I mean is 1950 here! If you live in a remote area here you are in a remote area.. PERIOD.. the closest you would be is to malls. |

South Widbey = rednecks, real hippies, and commuters. no culture, but it's actually drier than Seattle since it's in a bit of a rain shadow of the
Olympics. It drove my sister in law batty because it was too lonely for her.
North Widbey = Oak Harbor is a military base town. 'nuff said. Bellevue = every year is becomes more pretentious and another skyscraper is built. they do have a great high school football team, though. If you want the island experience with a little more culture (not much more), then go to Vashon Island (it's more artist oriented). If you want middle of the road seattle experience, go to green lake/ballard/fremont If you want eastside, then Kirkland/Redmond area is suburban but not bad. And Seattle is not a small town -- it's about 10 times better than most towns of it's size. Of course, Portland is about 20 times better than most towns of it's size (my bias). All that said, I can't imagine anyone from Hawaii relocating there -- it ain't sunny enough and the icy cold cloudy days in winter can be worse than mild, rainy days. Good luck (try San Diego) |
