A worthy notion, but here’s the problem from where I’m sitting.

A guy like Sleek28 comes on and says I have inside info and here’s the complete boot list. Sleek is then labeled a hoax. But how does that differ in principle from what just happened here, where someone says, “Alicia says ‘the tribe that builds fire goes the furthest.’ That must mean something. Otherwise, they wouldn’t have shown it.” How is that poster’s “spoiler” not also hoax-like since there is nothing whatsoever to indicate that that particular statement made by Alicia is any more significant or revelatory than any other statement uttered by Alicia or another contestant?

Take what happened in Survivor Amazon. We see a short video clip of a caiman and a bird and someone jumps to the conclusion that the caiman is Matt and the bird Jenna. How is this not a flight of fancy similar in scope to Sleek28’s boot list?. And yet, do the folk get banned who come up with these wildly visionary and highly unrealistic notions of what it means when we’re shown two crabs dueling? Do their threads get sent to the dump, or worse, locked? Of course not. And yet the Sleeks with their fake boot lists and the bizarre with their far-fetched “clues” both are making stuff up. So why is it that only the Sleeks are accused of engaging in a hoax. Is it because the folk who utter their wacky theories are believed to be sincere? But why should that matter? The end result is the same – we are being led astray.

And I’m not talking about vidcaps that objectively show that someone has left, or someone remains, or that someone has earned a reward. It’s one thing to see a preview vidcap of a contestant wearing an immunity idol and thereby figuring out who wins immunity during the next IC. It’s quite another to insist that because we are shown Rob saying, “I’m in charge here,” this means he wins (or loses) the game.

My point is this: if you’re going to ban folk like Sleek28, then you have to ban the folk who see a clue in every spoken segment, and who imbue significance into what is just another piece of dialogue, another picture of a flower, or another video clip of one animal devouring another. Such scenes signify and mean nothing and the folk who insist otherwise are doing the same thing the Sleeks of this board do – they are spewing a bunch of bullshit while pretending to know something. Stated another way, fairness dictates that if the former are allowed to flourish, so too should the latter.
