Okay, dumb question here, but where did the large CI thread go (the one where we were picking wildcards)?? I don't seem to see it listed right now. Guess
the forum is doing weird things...

I knew when roadie and shc joined forces last season that it was the first step in CI's demise.
And lol @ the "they're pulling the plug because the winners fade into obscurity" argument. Yes, our winners, just cannot seem compare with Reuben, Fantasia and Taylor Hick's flourishing careers. A-Dur, go around the globe, anyone knows these things only produce flavor of the months that even the biggest fanboys/fangirls forget all about a month after it's over. So I really doubt that's a legitimite reason. And yes, by flavor of the months, that also includes Kelly and Carrie. Trust me by the end of the year, they'll be an EW special on TV where they will be briefly featured and they'll subsequently ask "Where are they now?"
But I admit I'll miss watching you tards here actually getting emotionally invested on this show and starting fights left and right. That was definitely a guilty summer pleasure of mine. Oh and the DTM chart, I'll definitely miss the DTM chart...... |

And yes, by flavor of the months, that also includes Kelly and Carrie. Trust me by the end of the year, they'll be an EW special on TV where they will be briefly featured and they'll subsequently ask "Where are they now?" I agree to a certain extent. I think Carrie does stand a long term career shot with 2-3 more platinum albums. Kelly, I think has hit her peak a while ago, don't think she'll blow big again and might fade into obscruity. Cook can definitely maintain success if he is able to adapt to changing music tastes with his rock/pop angle. Jordin has a promising career that could give her a few more albums of moderate success. Reuben, Mantasia, and Taylor were all destined for failure eventually, least I thought so when they each won. I don't think any Idol shows goal is to create the next Madonna or Mariah........except for X Factor which seems to want a superstar sort of person. There goal seems to be to create a hyped up album selling, tour selling artist for however long it may be. But CI can't even manage that. Only did it once with Kalan. But CI has had a dismal success record in the last few years with the last winner not even charting with the Idol single. Of course the show being cancelled isn't solely due to post-Idol success but I think it didn't help really. I'm sure if our show was pulling a Kelly or a Carrie once in a while it would not be cancelled, economics or not. |

They moved the thread to the past seasons section. Just scroll down. There is a rumour going around that SYTYCDC might not come back either. The rating were really good for that too. So maybe they're actually telling us the truth why the show's on hiatus. |

Well their reason was the current economic climate and it would stand to reason that these types of shows are very expensive to produce.

The music rights alone would be a good chunk of money for both shows (Idol and SYTYCD). Just look at how AI got so upset with Daddy Archuletta when he
insisted his son put a line from another song into the one he was singing, and they were forced to pay for using that one line.

Exactly. For a sitcom you have a set and pay actors, writers and crew. With Idol and shit you've got all that plus all kinds of extras, music clearances,
the band, guest artists and then of course they pay for the living costs of the contestants. Plus you have the pay the judges and the host which I imagine
costs a pretty penny too. With a regular show the actors go home and it's their dime. I would imagine one of the biggest costs of Idol is the housing,
food, transportation etc costs for the finalists.
CI has never been a massive ratings grabber and winners have never become huge. I don't really buy that all of the sudden they'd dumb the show for solely that reason. |

Plus they have to pay the Mariah's that come to the show. It does make sense it's just that other people blame rating and lack of sales/success for
the winners all the time. I highly doubt CI cares about anything else but the ratings. But that being said the ratings weren't as good as they have been
but they were still decent. The show claims to be taking a break so we'll see a year from now if we get a season 7. I doubt the economy will be better
but by then hopefully we'll have a better idea where it stands. Plus in 2010 CTV will be airing the Olympics which will cost them a lot of money. Maybe
they're taking this year off idol to help pay for the Olympics. Who knows.

I read in the Montreal Gazette that one of the sponsers is GM, and this is one of three major auto makers that to have a Canadian Bailout. And no other sponser
has the money to foot the CI bill.

So what do they plan on showing instead? A new season of Zoey Busiek: Wild Card?

People are always looking for the next big thing, and right now Taylor is it. Daughtry might be able to put out another 1 or 2 decent selling albums. That's about it. |

As long as it's not Corner Gas, I'm just fine.

Corner Gas is over after this season, so no.
With that said Corner Gas is actually really funny imo. |

I've never seen one single episode of Corner Gas but from the commercials they show from time to time, it made me laugh.
You'd be surprised that there's actually a devoted American fanbase for this show. I guess the heartland states like Kansas and Iowa can relate. |

Exactly, which is why I included imo. Obviously you don't like it.
I think the ensemble cast is really good and funny. I have 4 seasons on DVD, I just need the last two. They're good to sit down and watch a bunch of episodes at a time if you're just looking for something funny. There was a marathon on Comedy Network the other day and I watched all day, lots of new episodes I haven't seen yet. RB you should check it out sometime. |

The funny thing is that the commercials make me laugh too. The rest of the cast seems good for laughs (especially the cops), but if I ever sit down and watch
the show, it's just...not funny. I tend to not really enjoy Canadian comedies in general, though.

Karen and Davis, the cops are funny.
I almost won a competition to get to interview the actress who plays Karen. You had to submit 10 questions you would ask her and I guess my questions were good b/c I was one of the finalists. I was nervous on the phone interview when they called me though so I guess that's why I lost. That would have been fun though. You got to go in like a limo and get styled and hang out with her and interview her for a day. |
