Swine, people love it because it was a 16 person season with diverse characters directly after CI and Fiji. That's the best way to explain it. I'm not
a huge fan simply because the finale was one of the worst episodes ever in addition to bringing back the final three twist...but besides that, I liked it.

I do not agree. Cirie is huge here at Sucks and Parvati and Eliza both have a decent fanbase, but on the other hand James was still a fan favorite (which=UGH)
and Ozzy is very appreciated by a lot of people (because he can swim...I guess). And allegedly some people liked Tracy and Erik. And Jonathan? He also has like
a little cult. And kenc333 likes Amanda. lol.

Well the fans sucked. But it's not that unusual for fan reaction to be heavily biased to one tribe or another. There aren't a lot of Onion supporters
either, so it's not like Gabon fandom was distributed amongst the entire cast or anything.

Also, hating a character can tie you to a season just as much as liking someone. Plenty of people could write pages on their loathing of Ace or Gillian. Same goes for the love of Dan, despite the fact that he was a total tool. |

If we're including Ace, Gillian and Dan, then Natalie, Kathy and Jason count for Micro. I honestly don't think Gabon inspired fandom to the levels on
par with certain people from CI, PI, Micro, Palau and other big cast seasons. Maybe Crystal, but that's it.

I really don't get why people become such rabid fans of certain players. Sure, there are people who I'd like to see win, either because they have a
good story or they use good strategy but, if they don't, I move on. I mean, unless a family member, a friend or a neighbor goes on the show, why care to
such great lengths?
That being said, China deserves a high rating just for breaking ground of filming in China, the great scenery they created for many challenges and the rewards showing local customs, landmarks and villages. As for the people, most players were very well developed and the story of this kid who watched Survivor from the start (much like most of us), who gets challenged by the big guys in his tribe, who has to counter Zhan Hu's plan to throw challenges and comes out on top anyway is very good. Gabon has merit for location and the great scenes with animals but I don't see anything else to put it anywhere but in the middle, an average season. Now, don't get me wrong; an average season of Survivor, for me, is still great TV. |

I understand not appreciating the beginning seasons as much if you didn't start with them, because the show has evolved quite a bit since then, but I
don't at all believe those seasons are overrated. They're just valued for different reasons. I personally wish the show was more about people and
gameplay and less about SHOCKING! NEW! TWISTS!, which would be a mixture of both worlds I guess.
