Homeward Bound was tear jerky? It was a Disney movie! How could the dog not come out of the woods, even if he was hobbling on three legs.

And this movie is much more of a tearjerker than that. I'd venture to say that it's even more so than "My Dog Skip," considering in that movie we're only told what happened to Skip while Willie was in college. In "Where the Red Fern Grows" and "Old Yeller," it was sort of inevitable that the dogs had to die because of what happened to them physically. In this movie, its a lot more painful to watch because there really isn't a dramatic reason (such as being bitten by a rabid animal or getting in a fight for protecting their owner) for why Marley passes. He's simply old and suffers from what many old dogs suffer from while in the good care of their owners.

In "Skip," we're told that he passes because of old age, but its done off-screen. Here we actually see it happen and what the events were that lead up to that point, which is much harder to watch, especially for anyone who's ever had a dog before.

Speaking of "Skip," anyone else notice that both Wilson brothers have now starred in very sad dog movies?
