So I'm officially done with training after two months here at my new job and I start my regular shift tomorrow which is a 4x10. For the youngins that
don't know what that means, I work ten hours a day, but I get three days off during the week. Currently my hours are 7:30-5:54, with Thurs/Sat/Sun off,
although I'm trying to get in good with my boss to see if I can swap the Thurs for a Friday.

5:54? will you get fired if you leave at 5:53?
I'd only work 4 x 10 if the days off were friday/sat/sun. |

You get used to it. I work 7:00 to 3:50 and get every second Monday off. You'll love the three day weekend.
Congrats on the new job. I hope you like it. |

My husband works 4 10's, and has fri, sat, sun off. He likes it, but many times he ends up working overtime on Friday.

Try working 12 hour days, 6 days a week. Anyway, when you work a lot, you gotta love your job or at least find something about it that fulfills you. If that fails, try having sex with a co-worker or blackmailing your boss. (Good luck). |

I do. M-Th kinda suck, but F-S/S is awesome! You get used to it.

I work 4 9s and an 8 every other Friday
Best deal I had was when I worked in the oilfield - 12 hour days from the start of the well until it was done, and then I got one paid day off for every 3 I had worked - I'd work all winter then take a month or two off in the spring or summer |

Luckily, I do like my new job a lot, so I'm not worrying about it that much. I'm just to happy have three days off during the week! ^_^ |

It's a good schedule, GJ. You won't even feel the extra two hours you put in Monday thru Thursday, and the three-day weekends more than make up for it.
You'll love it! |

I do it. Sat, Sun and Mon off. Before this I worked 7-3 with no break often. Now I take my lunch so its only like 1.5 extra hours to me. Sometimes it feels
like there is no time left in the days you do work but the 3 days off more than make up for it.

one of the problems you may face with a FSS off, is that your employers may expect you to do all medical, dental, etc appointments on your weekday off -
unfortunately a lot of medical places are closed on Friday - try from SSM instead

Oh good point CBR. That never even crossed my mind.

The only problem I had with 3 day weekends is finding social things to do on the weekday- my friends were all working.
But I still miss it.... you will definitely enjoy 3 days off. |

I'm sure I can find something to do on the weekday I have off. Sleeping in as long as possible more then likely.

I used to work 4 10s. We were all happy when we switched to that because we'd have 3 day weekends, but then we realized that they only switched to that so
they could get 30 hours of OT out of us a week instead of 16.

Ick. Lick your boss's ass and maybe you manage to get Friday, Sat, Sun off instead of Thursday...

Meh, if you don't have kids, I don't see why it would be a problem. Good luck.

I opted to do the Wednesday off ... because sooo many people had the M/F off ... you could actually get work done on those days.
That way I worked two days, had one off, worked two, had two off, ... when I wanted a longer weekend - I used one of my vacation days. It made work more bearable when you knew you only had to work two days before having one off. The M or F is nice, but then you have four long days in a row. |

Oh GJ I so miss my 4x10's. My absolute favorite was actually M, T W-off Th, F. That kicked ass. Two days of blah work a day off and then two days of
blah work and the weekend! It was great AND it gave me a weekday to deal with personal shit.

You guys are giving me a lot to ponder.
I thought having Fri/Sat/Sun would be pretty much the best shift ever, but getting a day off in the middle of the week does help break the week up and you still get your weekend off. |
