People that aren't addicts don't understand what it's like, and that's a good thing. Cause being an addict is no fun...

Kitten - don't feel bad. There USED to be an Intervention thread, but it fell off for lack of interest. As a serious Intervention fan, I've watched
every eppy. I could write a book on my feelings about it, but who really cares?

my favorite epi is the one with chuckie negron. chuck, sr., julia densmore, berry oakley, jr., it's a cavalcade of misery. my second favorite is the
rainman gambler who causes his parents house to go into forclosure and is so verbally abusive to them it's off the charts.
this show has the ability to make you very sad, angry and has at least a little unintentional hilarity. |

I agree, factory. It shows the true & dark side of drugs and addiction like no other.
PS: We care, lauriemeck, or we wouldn't be here! |

gabe!! sorry, but i howl at that one. of course it's horrible the way he treats his parents, but they allow it. it is such a twisted cycle that addiction
throws a family into. everyone has their role.

Someone really needs to put it on youtube. It was one of the first episodes I think so not many people remember it. It definitely had me cracking up.

it's at the point where it's so hard to imagine any addict isn't on to the fact that it's an intervention, no matter how out of it they've
been for however many years. on the other hand, maybe addicts don't watch a&e. or maybe they don't have the long-term memory abilities that they
used to.
punk'd was good for only 2 seasons at the most because it lost the surprise factor. so far, intervention is still delivering. |

There was that one episode where the guy figured it out. This show is good but I don't think that many people watch it.

they already know they are being filmed for a "documentary" about addiction. what amazes me is how shocked they are when they show up at some
random hotel room.what are they expecting?

Yeah, one would think the minute the guy walked to the door and heard "I'll go get some lemonade", he'd run to his car and peel outta there.

And furthermore, most addicts don't believe there is a problem. They will spend whatever amount of time is necessary to get others to share their opinion.
Put a camera in their face and their life on film, they probably think they are helping to make a positive statement. I know it's sick, but these people
don't have normal thought processes - they truly believe that it's those who don't use who are the ones with problems.

I don't know about that. I'm sure addicts feel that way, but there are also addicts who know they are fucked up and are killing themselves but they
just don't care because they are just fucked up, or they just don't know how to stop because they are addicts, and need a lot of help. That doesn't
mean they all think non-junkies are "the ones with problems".

This is by far one of my favorite series too. I don't know why I find it so compelling to watch. Perhaps it is the three alcoholic marriages under my
belt...
I am addicted to addicts. I think the reason they are able to keep getting new fodder for the show is that addicts of this caliber simply are not in tune with current television shows. Even if they know about Intervention, the liklihood that they would put 2 and 2 together, or give a shit about having to face the "intervention" part of the process, is slim. If I were an addict (is all I'm sayin'...), and I was using heavy, and someone offered me SERIOUS MONEY, and all I had to do was let them film me for a few weeks, I'd do it. Even if I suspected an intervention on the horizon, my brain would say, "big deal, I'll sit through an hour of my family begging me, then I'll say no and get up and leave and go get my money". Addicts don't think long term. |

Fuck me.
I was pushing my cart at the WalMart today (I know, that should get me a Fuck Me already, but times are tough. So Fuck You.) and as I passed the video section with all of the DVDs on sale there was a can of "Cleans It" on top of a stack of DVDs. "Cleans It" is Allison's huff of choice. That was so fucking weird. For a moment I had half a mind to buy that can, head to the parking lot, and walk on some sunshine. It was just so freaky, knowing Allison as I do and having read the posts here. "Cleans It". Spookie. |
