I'm sure addicts feel that way, but there are also addicts who know they are fucked up and are killing themselves but they just don't care because they are just fucked up, or they just don't know how to stop because they are addicts, and need a lot of help. That doesn't mean they all think non-junkies are "the ones with problems. Thank you crushing for your kind comment. I am using the above quote as evidence of what I am talking about. The only reason I am saying anything at all about being an addict is because I am not currently writing from a work computer. You know what - some addicts KNOW they are addicts and DO CARE that they are fucking their lives up. Funny thing is I went to the Intervention website because I would love to get help from one of the beautiful rehab facilities the show uses. Unfortunately, the application specifically states that the addict cannot know they are being considered for the show, so how can I apply for myself? Oh well, I love the show because I can definitely relate (that is, to everyone but the anorexics and bulimics, cause I love to eat!).

Its the Internet, bud. How exactly would they know that "your Mom" or "Aunt Sally" on the application was you? Lie. In this case it would be totally forgiven. I would think being a Sucks member could be an advantage for you. Again, lie. Tell them a tale they want to hear based on your Sucks education about reality television that will get you in the running. That said, John was one of the few folks on this show that I actually felt sorry for. Most on this show are truly vile. A lot of times their families even more so. I know, I know, abuse in childhood or effects of the drugs are major contributors to the vileness. Unless there was a lot they didn't show us (and I suspect that might be true because he was kicked from the rehab), but John just seemed incredibly lonely to me. He just didn't care if he lived or died. 21 with no friends. No girlfriend? John was alone. That's got to suck. John even seemed to have intelligence. He spoke well. I guess just not a personality? Hell, I'd go to dinner with him from what I saw. An odd Ep, but I liked it and I hope this guy makes it.

It adds up, and diabetics don't heal like we do. Every time it happens you're at risk for permanent kidney failure, coma, and/or death. Coupled with severe depression, I think this kid needed help, pronto.

Posts: 428 (01/06/09 6:06 AM) Reply Quote More Recent Posts Message Connection Block Invite	As a type 1 diabetic who was recently released from the hospital after going into DKA thanks to bronchitis making me puke my brains out, I can relate to this kid. I've been diabetic for 17 years and the physical and mental strain it puts on you, especially as a teenager, are astronomical. I was lucky in a way to get diabetes as a child; I had a good long while to adjust. But the depression that comes with diabetes is something I've experienced first hand and it can be nearly impossible to want to take care of yourself. I'm sure John went through a "Why me?" period just like I did that only fueled his depression. DKA is probably the scariest thing I've ever had to deal with - the rapid heartrate, unbelievable dehydration and utter lack of energy make it nearly impossible to function and if you don't catch it early, like I did, it can kill you. I really hope they get John set up on an insulin pump as it takes away the stigma of having to run around with vials of drugs and syringes with you everywhere you go. Actually in my case, my pump saved my life. It kept my ketoacidosis from going beyond the point of no return. I really felt for John and understood where he was coming from. I sincerely hope he starts taking care of himself.

Posts: 5249 (01/06/09 11:25 AM) Registered user Reply Quote More Recent Posts Message Connection Block Invite	john should def smoke some dope. the drinking would be all sugar. guess if he was high he would eat bad foods anyway. that was a really bleak episode in general. it made me sad because there are a lot of people that have just given up on life in general. he did not seem to want to try to improve his lot in life or change anything. slow suicide. and taking his parents down the rabbit hole with him. i changed the channel at about 45 minutes because there did not seem to be a solution that he would follow and frankly, i was getting depressed by watching his depression. what was the short term outcome?

Disturbing in so many ways. The whole family is truly f-ed up. Spitting the food back in the cup....yeuuuuuuck. The fact that doctors willingly prescribe her so many drugs. Her family not reporting the molester. wtf?

He agreed to go to treatment, but as with any chronic ailment, he'll have to maintain a regimen of diet, insulin injections and glucose testing. So he did take the help, I just really really hope he keeps it up. It's not hard at all, just like his dad said. It just takes the effort, which when severely depressed can be a bitch and a half to put forward.

Clean (and clean includes "sober" - alcohol is a drug) since 7/8/96 and I'll say this... The arrogance of those who are not an addict who say "they (addicts) think this" or "they do that because" or so forth never ceases to astound me. Only an addict can understand another addict or their behavior and even then we're not always spot on about it. To all you "normies" try this: don't put words in their mouths or thoughts in their heads. I'll admit we can be huge liars, but when we are being truthful we're being gut level honest. And even when we're lying we may not even be aware of it. By that I mean we've lied to ourselves for so long that we start to believe the lie so that when we tell it we think we're being truthful. Again, if you're not an addict you won't understand. Addiction is no different a disease than diabetes or cancer. It's insidious and incurable, but treatable for those who will accept the help. Now for those of you who got their feelers hurt by what I just typed, or who think they know better, and now you want to fling crap back, go right ahead. Show your ignorance and arrogance even more. Or shut your piehole and try to learn something. It hasn't been mentioned, but for anyone who may have noticed his absence, Jeff is on hiatus from the show. During a live interview style "Where Are They Now?" episode he admitted that he was struggling with drinking and had to admit that alcohol was a drug and was seeking treatment for it. He plans to be back at some point.
