I'm new to this show and just watched the episode with Tressa, the husky blond former track star, with the right wing Christian parents who are against
homosexuality. I loved it. Can't wait to see some more! It said she has been clean since 2007!
Pill popper mom was on before but I only saw the last half hour. I felt terribly bad for her youngest son who was sobbing most of the time. |

I always feel bad for the little kids. There was one with an alcoholic woman (can't remember her name) and the father was taking them to his mothers to get
them away from her and she stumbled out to say good-bye and one boy just said "That used to be our mom." Broke my heart.
They had a little "where are they now" thing with Tressa that I saw a few weeks ago, she seems to be doing well and was getting back into doing the track and field stuff. |

i saw the tressa one earlier. her parents lack of tolerance was really fucked up. they were just totally unwilling to accept what had been right in front of their faces since day one.
pill popper mom fucked both her kids up to the point that they will have no quality life as she sucked it out of them. one running around paranoid and angry and they other a pantywaist, crying over everything. while she sits her oxy'd ass in the garage and smokes, drinks a red bull creates havoc and then passes out, feeling no pain and seemingly little remorse. |

aw, i haven't seen the tressa update yet, but i remember her. how could they have possibly denied she was gay? i hope they have interviews with her family
in the follow-up.
watching jan now. her kids are so articulate and together. i would never have the patience to deal with that woman's whining. but after recovery, jan still dresses like a wannabe rich lady. this won't end well.... |

Ugh. Addicts dispensing morality. Glad you're doing well yuk, but for crying out loud, how is the oxygen level in that ivory tower?

tiger, if I were running around saying "squirrel molesters think this" or "squirrel molesters do that because" I'm sure you'd feel
the same way.

iismepeter wrote: That's the only part of the show I don't like. They ALWAYS give some childhood abuse story as if that caused the addiction. It's a disease. Plenty of people have been raped and sexually abused and didn't turn into addicts- because they don't have the disease. It suggests that an event or bad childhood is the reason for the addiction and it's not. It's a disease of the brain, a sickness of the body. This is the reason people who use medication to recover stay sober WAY more often, and longer over those that do meetings only. |

i don't know a lot about addiction...but, yes, the show always gives the background that mostly includes child abuse, child molestation, rape, emotional
abuse, etc.
in my family, we've had just one addict. she's been clean for more than 2 years now, but at the time, we kept looking at her life and trying to figure out what happened to her -- and really, we were looking for some trauma, like those portrayed on the show. we had conversations about maybe she had an abortion we didn't know about, something...bc as far as we all knew, her life was trauma- and abuse-free. married parents, close extended family, middle-class, nice home, lots of friends, pretty, boyfriends, everything. so now jani has me thinking about the show, and why they always present that trauma, bc it does seem that they portray it as a cause trigger of the addiction. hmm.

It's not necessarily the cause/trigger of the addiction, but a lot of the time it's what drives them to the drugs in the first place. Or at least,
that's how I interpret it a lot of the time.

Addictions are a tricky thing. I know a few addicts that weren't abused/raped as adults or children. I also know addicts that were viciously
assaulted/raped/molested/you name it as children and young adults.
Is it in the brain? Maybe. But sometimes drugs, sex, booze is used to dull the world around them so they can cope. I try not to judge any of them as to why they use the substance of choice, I just try to make sure they have the tools necessary when they decide it is time to face their demons. But I am addict to this show. I shouldn't be but goddamnit! I have to watch! |

Addiction = Disease.
Nope. How about addiction = a fundamental weakness in a particular human being. A lack of any sort of self-control or sense of responsibility that otherwise compels the rest of us to get up every morning and go to work and such, even though we don't want to either. You don't, we do. Disease my ass. Yeah. That's more like it. And "Triggers" to addiction?. More like excuses to be a Drama Queen (as shown each and every week on Intervention.) Something bad happened in your life? Boo Hoo. Something bad happens in all of our lives. The vast majority of us get over it and lead productive lives. The Drama Queens now have an excuse to fall into any sort of repugnant, self-destructive behavior they can find. They have a Trigger. Not to single anyone out here, but I was told cindidindi76 was recently involved in a car accident where she broke her toe (at least and maybe more.) Is she going to turn into a raging alcoholic now? Start popping pills to the determent of all around her? Is she going to become a Drama Queen and turn her life (and the lives of her family) to shit? I don't think so. I have read her posts. She is an incredible woman even through all of this Bad Time of hers. Why is that? She has all of the same excuses? She could be a Drama Queen. An alcoholic, a drug abuser from her pain. Why didn't cindidindi76 show up on Intervention? Wow. That would be a more compelling TV show than Intervention ever could be. * Sorry, cindi. That wasn't personal. That was a tribute. * |

TV MA LSV = absolutely fucking retarded.
Except for the cindi part. Seriously, dude, you are what addicts don't need in their lives. Ever. |

I think we talked about this a little in the Celebrity Rehab last season, but I didn't even take the Oxy I was prescribed as often as I could because I was all paranoid about getting all fucked up on it. Now, I realize that generally when people are using it to get high they grind it up and that's why it gets them high, but I was still paranoid about it. Interestingly enough, the dumb bitch nurse at the nursing home told me that when I wanted to cut down on them I should just cut them in half.

Adding to the Cindi love! Last night's episode here was the alcoholic who didn't want to lose his family. I was so touched by his partner's
willingness to attend AA meetings while he was at rehab and go through couples counseling. I find myself crossing my fingers at the end of each show when they
show if the person has remained sober.
