 I'm panicking right now. I lost my paycheck a
week ago. I thought I had it but when I went to look at my bag to deposit it, it's gone! Now my boss is telling me someone already cashed it and it cleared
the bank.
What's going to happen? Can I still get the money? Is there any solution to this? |

Unless you're boss is willing to float you the money while you make the police report, wait forever for the thief to be found, and go through all the court

where's your christmas spirit? they obviously needed the money. 'tis better to give than receive.
i think you'll have to go to your bank and fill out a form. maybe they can fax it to you. but i think they want it to be notarized or something, just so they can try to make sure that you didn't do something nefarious with the paycheck and are now trying to claim it was stolen. part 2, you should ask your employer for an advance on your next check. they should help you, given the circumstances. |

yes, file a police report, get the cancelled check. They have video of the bank where they cashed it and finger prints.
They get arressted for theft. you burn your nuts on a space heater while playing beer pong in a cold garage this new years eve...wait..that is what I am gonna due. |

some employers won't do direct deposit cuz they're too cheap or something. i've had direct deposit since as far as i can remember.

if they don't give at least a partial advance, they're fucking scum. it's not like $1,000 or something is going to break any company.
if they won't give you anything, find some company laptops and ebay them. eta: the owner of the small business i worked for wouldn't do direct deposit because he was always fucking with cash flow and liked to have some checks come in slower. that said, the company allowed pay advances twice a year.

It may depend on the laws where you live, but I think the bank is liable for cashing it to someone who isn't you. Don't they require an ID for cashing
checks?
Or maybe somebody deposited it, which would need no ID check. In that case, it ought to be pretty simple to reverse the deposit and get you your money back. |
