The Amazing Race: Murphy's Law
After the Race has started, the host will be posting updates. For example, if your team was Heidi & Mutya, and you are required to run to your bags after my update, I'll post something like this in my update:
*run to bags*
Heidi & Mutya
You (as well as any other teams below that particular instruction) must post *run to bags*. The speed at which you post after my update can be critical, for example determining order in a task or leg placements when checking in. A lot of the Race will come down to posting such updates, however your life may be complicated in the form of tasks, such as...
Detour:
The old saying is still the best: "A Detour is a choice between 2 tasks, each with its pros and cons." Here, you will be forced to choose 1 out of 2 activities to accomplish before receiving your next clue. You may switch Detours at anytime by posting *(your team) switches Detours*, however:
- you must wait 1 update before making your next move
- once you switch Detours you must pay for any transport to the other Detour (if you had already made your way to the location of your previous Detour
- and all efforts on the previous Detour will be null and void, i.e. if you choose to switch back again you will have to start anew
Roadblock:
These tasks tend to be slightly more tricky/difficult/annoying than average. A '6 Roadblocks' rule is in place, so each Racer may only complete a maximum of 6 Roadblocks for the Race. You will not be given credit for a Roadblock if you choose a Racer who has alrady filled his/her Roadblock quota to tackle it, so it's best to check beforehand.
Fast Forward:
On rare occasions, a Fast Forward may pop up. Any team that manages to claim the Fast Forward first can then proceed straight to the Pit Stop for the leg. Also, please state Shaka Zulu when asked if you have read the instructions in your application. However, only 1 team may claim a Fast Forward per leg; any other unsuccessful teams must return to the point where they had initially chosen the Fast Forward, with a monetary penalty equivalent to the return transport. Also, a team may only choose to use then Fast Forward once during the entire Race, so choose wisely.
Fast Forwards in this season will be of the TAR 5-onwards 'scarce' frequency.
U-Turn:
A U-Turn is a device with the sole purpose of stirring up drama: Any team that is U-Turned by another team during a leg will be forced to return to the other Detour they did not choose and complete it. A team may only use the U-Turn once during the entire Race.
Speed Bump:
If you come in last on a Non-Elimination leg, you will have to complete a Speed Bump, or an additional task, on the next leg of the Race. If a sufficient number of teams sign up, then Non-Elimination legs and hence Speed Bumps will not appear.
Money:
On each leg of the Race, teams will be issued with a set amount of money. This will matter especially when it comes to stuff like transportation; usually faster transportation will be more expensive. Be prudent with your money, a particular leg may require more money than has been given out at the start of it, so you will need to draw on your savings from previous legs.
As we travel from country to country, you will have to convert your money's currency. Use XE, or http://www.xe.com/, to exchange money. Convert all your money into the local currency BEFORE you reach your destination (or by your first post there); Make sure to keep track of your expenses at all times, including whenever you use money, and when you check into the Pit Stop, and or it will make life difficult for everyone. If I find out that you have spent beyond your means on any leg, I will add a time penalty under the assumption that you have begged a sufficient number of times to make up for the monetary shortfall (see below).
You may post this if you are out of cash:
*(team name) begs for money*
You will forfeit one update, however it will earn you the equivalent of 3 USD in local currency. If you add a skit of at least 4 lines with each beg and it is entertaining enough, I will increase the amount received for the applicable beg to 8 USD. YOU MAY NOT BEG WHILE YOU ARE STUCK DOING TASKS.
New restrictions on begging:
You may not beg unless your current amount of money is insufficient to proceed to the next task/cheapest form of transportation available.
You may only beg to a point which is sufficient to cover your expenses for the next task (and you MUST take the cheapest option).
YOU MAY NOT BEG ON TRANSPORTATION. PERIOD.
Just to clarify though, say if it's a Detour choice between a paying and non-paying task, you CAN go for the paying task... you'll just have to beg.
In addition, TEAMS MAY NOT GIVE EACH OTHER MONEY.
Additional info:
If you happen to post that just before I post my next update, then you may not be given credit for your post. Don't worry, just inform me where I have missed your update and go ahead to post the next update in line. If you are correct, all will be happy and fine.
If you notice that someone else may be updated wrongly, you must point it out before they check into the Pit Stop, or else no action will be taken.
Be sure to read all instructions carefully. It is not my fault if you do not follow the instructions.
I must warn everyone that given the nature/gimmick of the Race, you may run into frustrating situations at times; if I happen to host any Races in the future, such blatant obstacles will not be included (at least not as frequently).
The Stagger Rule:
I will aim to post updates once every 3-4 minutes. However. on the occasion that office shit beckons and I am inactive for 5 or more minutes, The Stagger Rule kicks in, and is applicable especially to time (and not update) sensitive tasks, such as certain Detours and Roadblocks, or when a team that had not showed up for the leg suddenly appears.
The Stagger Rule works as such: If you PM/post your stuff within 3 minutes of my last update, it will be taken into account during the next update; if it submitted 4-6 minutes after my last update, it will be accounted for in the update after that, so on and so forth. This is to make things fairer for everyone involved. In addition, I will post a heads-up when I return, a minute or two before my next update. I will also try to warn everyone if I may have to go away, and for whatever duration, but I cannot guarantee this.
If you feel that this is unfair, you are free to leave the Race immediately. If not, I apologise for any potential future delays, and I hope you understand.
Proxies:
I am adapting Avant Tai's rule on proxies here, because I feel it's sufficiently fair.
- In the event that you cannot make it for a leg, you may race with a proxy/proxies (or someone not currently in the game) for ONE leg throughout the Race.
- Proxies are only useable up to leg 7 of the Race.
- Should your proxy survive the leg, the amount of money you hold at the end of the leg will be halved.
All legs will be scheduled to start at 7:30pm Sucks time earliest, and will only take place on scheduled Sundays-Thursdays. Across timezones, minimum starting times are as such:
Eastern 8:30pm
Central 7:30pm
Mountain 6:30pm
Pacific 5:30pm
UK 1:30am
Singapore/Philippines 9:30am
Thailand 8:30am

The Hostess with the Mostest
As the regular host of the UK series of Big Brother, Davina McCall is used to more than her fair share of weirdos, wannabes and attention-seekers. She describes herself as 'boisterous', and loves nothing more than to watch others suffer. After popping out 3 babies over the past 8 years, this 41 year-old model and actress is taking time away from her family, choosing to immerse herself in yet another trashy show with low production values, hoping to see the world at its worst on this Race.
