It also didn't hurt that Casaya actually benefited from losing the first IC after the tribe pick'em because they traded in Melinda for Bruce. If La Mina had lost that IC and booted Misty or Ruth Marie to get Bruce, it would have been a lot less likely that Casaya would have had the numbers at the merger.
Still THANK GOD Cassaya lost that IC, won Bruce, got water from Bruce's dirty shirt method and dominated the rest of the game! Otherwise we would've ended up with a Terry win (a fate we only narrowly avoided anyway!) yuck.
