On average Dominican's are black, the Dominican Republic is not like Brazil or South Africa where there the community is more evenly split. Speaking as an actual black Dominican, I can tell you it is more similar to Brazil and less like South Africa, but similar in the power structure where government and big business is mostly controlled by whites. There are white and black Dominicans, but most Dominicans are considered mixed race. The Dominican Republic is the middle spectrum of the Spanish Carribean islands. Cuba's population is/was more separate like the South with a small mixed race population. Puerto Rico has the most mixed race population with very few blacks and whites. The Dominican Republic has much larger black population than the other two, but its mixed race population is larger.
