Hmmm, I don't know about the king of the world statements from Sierra. I'll have to rewatch.

I know when watching it, the confessionals never had me wincing. maybe it has to do with the setup seems to be whenever Sierra gets an inch, there's a scene to counter it to show that she is in danger. last episode was the setup that she can win -hope from not being a loser -and then it is soon followed by Oh no you can't from Tyson and Debbie in regards to Brendan -"You can't tell Sierra!" So now the audience is clued in that Sierra's plan is dashed because everyone else (dramatically) is on to her.

Power alliances that are setup to fail are established as others not having a clue and we're screaming Open Your Eyes. Not the case here. Joe/Tyson are both set up as power players who can dismantle the light at the end of the tunnel for Sierra/Taj and Brendan (who for some reason is edited as distanced from the Coach group) all in danger. Notice the exhile alliance has not been set up as targeting a specific person- heightening the peril for an intended target or generating audience sympathy or danger for someone in their trap. It's more empathetic to Sierra/Taj/Brendan.

And I'm really suspicious about Joe's subtitled line to Sydney in episode four about Sierra. No need for that.

Sierra's "oh yeah, a million dollars," and Joe's "Who is Jenna? We don't really know who Jenna is" type line is just the type of cute winking the editors do for a general audience to go back and say, "shoot, why didn't I see that!"

reality is there's probably is very little opposition out there to create drama -and both tribes seem to be doing the best they can as a group.

I don't think the Exhile Alliance coasts to the end anyway -and why would some of them want that- (Stephen, like me, would be thinking Gee thanks Taj, but I already had my group -but if we don't have majority at merge, sure I'll use that). Could Sierra's story of being brought in happen without all the drama of Brendan not telling her prior to meeting Taj still have aired? I think so -without missing a beat- well, maybe a little dicey because she picked Taj -but it still could have been played as plan EA working and the stuff of needing to pick Stephen edited out. The inner conflicts with Sierra/Brendan/Taj and Stephen are too great and crafted to just create a dramatic block for Erinn and others to overcome down the line. The forming of the EA definitely dictated where this story goes and is unavoidable -but there is great care with the foursome it involves.
don't worry Erinn is still a contender.
