Getting negative SPV is getting negative SPV. Just because it's from a character like Coach doesn't miraculously make Erinn positive. That's so fucking stupid.
Erinn is CPN, but I can see an argument for CPM because she did seem to have an underdog girl status about her. She definitely had MANY N moments though.

This is IMO an important point about the various types of N SPVs, and illustrate the point I made before the start of the season about how in some cases SPVs are of more importance to the speaker than the second person. -- SPVs are odd ducks. Sometimes they are important to the second person, sometime to the viewer (as narration) and sometimes the matter more to the speaker. The stuff Coach said re Erinn is a classic example of the latter. Note that the first post-IC SPV that Coach said about Erinn was immediately after Coach's silly "leadership" statement where he said, "Let's not break into little groups and get all negative about one person." And yet the very next SPV was Coach getting all negative about a player! That is purposeful editing, and the SPV becomes nearly irrelevant, except to show that coach is an astonishing hypocrite. And the problem with his N SPVs about Erinn were that they were both relentless and contradicted. She wasn't evil, she wasn't gloating. My god, he went on and on about her "look." (he even admitted practicing it!) In the interim we also saw a very interesting and subtle confessional from Erin about Jerry. She was glad, of course, but was sensitive about it. Her reaction was normal,. and not wicked at all. N SPVs that are contradicted don't necessarily sway the second person's episode tone automatically to P, but they are far more likely to move it in that direction than in the N direction. Contradicted N SPVs are a very, very bad thing for the speaker's chances. Coach's rants did little to make Erin negative, and were pretty much the kiss of death for coach in the game. As I noted, as far as I can tell no player who has uttered an N SPV (Contradicted) has ever won. So sorry, but not all N SPVs have the result of making the viewer think N thoughts about the second person. |

I'd love to see a final 6 of Taj, Sierra, Brenden, Stephen, Erinn, and Tyson with Coach having been blindsided in the final 7.
With the ratings as they are, it would be a spicy final 6 to say the least. |

He wasn't criticizing you for it, he was being attempting to be a smartass saying that she couldn't win since you picked her. Joe - He seemed happy and content with the way camp life was going, but wasn't shown very much. UTR2 J.T. - He was seen as someone who provided for the camp (the fishing scene) which automatically gave him some positive vibes. MORP2 Sandy - We saw very little of Sandy this episode. I'm sure the casual viewer is saying to his or herself "where did that crazy old lady go!?" UTR2 Spencer - Like Sandy, we saw very little of him tonight. UTR2 Stephen -Now being apart of the exile island alliance gave him some face time, but nothing significant. MOR2 Sydney - Was she even shown at all this episode? INV1 Taj - Creating and being a part of the exile island alliance has put her on the map as someone to watch out for, but she was not one of the main focuses of the episode. MOR3 TIMBIRA Brendan - His exile island alliance with Taj put himself on the map as a power player, but wasn't really a major focal point of the episode. MOR3 Coach - He was obviously one of the main characters in the episode, but his arrogance has shown more than ever. OTTN5 Debbie - The only time we really saw Debbie was her screaming during the reward challange. We didn't see anything strategic from her. UTR2 Erinn - Erinn is emerging as an underdog who is really sneaky and shady. Sort of reminiscent of Sugar in Gabon in some ways. Her standing up to Coach at tribal council, who is widely seen as an arrogant jerk, gave Erinn some positive vibes, at least to the casual viewer. Also, the episode focused on her quite a bit. CPP5 Jerry - You felt sympathy for Jerry because of his illness, and since it was his boot episode, he was shown quite a bit. OTTP4 Sierra - We saw Sierra somewhat this episode, but now as much as the first two episodes. However, she was still had a few confessionals. MOR2 Tyson - Him being Coach's "general", and the whole "I love seeing people cry when you crush their dreams" quote screamed negative. He was also shown quite a bit this episode, and is emerging as a power player. CPN4 Hey guys, this is my first time rating but I think I got the hang of it!

I don't understand all the OTT ratings for Jerry. I thought he was much more CP than OTT. Look at the guidelines for OTT:
OTT - Over the top1. Jerry was definitely not simplified. He knew he was sick and that they might try to get rid of him because he was sick so in his confessional, he said he would try to act strong around the tribe so that they would not notice that he was as sick as he actually was. Of course, this did not work because he was so sick that he couldn't mask it, but the fact that he tried to look strong and had a confessional to explain it is important. 2. He had positive SPV, but I still didn't feel a positive tone for him. They could have easily edited it in a way that conveyed that he got struck down with bad luck and would have gone far if not for his sickness. I didn't feel sad that he was leaving, this was a neutral edit all the way for me. He certainly was not presented as a "hero" or someone that is loved by the audience. 4. He certainly showed internal conflict, especially after their IC loss when he expressed how he had let his tribe down and was too weak in the IC, but he wasn't going to quit. I can understand MOR even, but I can't understand OTT for Jerry. |
