The only thing the judges did wrong about Lil was convincing her she is better than she really is.
Thank god I don't have to look at her face or hear her sing anymore. |

Not worse than Kendall and Von. At least Scott and Lil (on that one week's performance and that one performance only) were better. I really hated Jorge,
but I still think he sang better than Von and Kendall.

Lil did look pretty wednesday night (neat boots, too) and I actually managed to feel a bit sorry for her. The problem is that she was just in way over her head
in this. Aside from not being that great a singer to begin with, she's not a natural performer and got sucky, contradictory advice from the judges (and
maybe her friends and family too). The judges started out praising her too much and then visciously turned on her. So she was never able to properly use what
talent she did have and give us some genuinely good performances.
I'd like to emphatically disagree with the judges about her future career. She'll never make it. She lacks both the talent and the temperament for it. She should stick to singing in her church or to her kids. I'd also like to strongly disagree with the idea that our criticism of Lil is racially motivated. I have been a big fan of MOST of the black finalists (and some that didn't make it that far): I think Tamyra, Ruben, KLo, George, Latoya, Jennifer, Nadia, Mandisa, Paris, Stephanie, Lakisha, Melinda, Jordin, Chakezie and Syesha are all really good singers. I have voted for most of them (I didn't vote the first 2 seasons), have bought the CDs of many in this group who have released any, etc. Some of these people are widely disliked in Sucks, and that's okay too. People's tastes differ. The best way of refuting the idea that our criticism is racial is to look at how we feel about the other contestants. Does 95+% of sucks hate Danny because he's white? Of course not. We hate him because he's a smug, mediocre, incredibly overpimped singer. Similarly, the widespread dislike or indifference to Matt isn't racial either. It's because he's not a very good singer. Nor was it true of the other white no-talents who have already been mercifully voted off (Scott, Megan, Michael). The bottom line: NOBODY on Idol gets a free ride in Sucks. |
