However, Madison did say "that man" when referring to who took her to the hidden room. She knew everyone else didn't she?

It's the ultimate copout by the writers to account for every single person's alibi (any particular murder could have been Wakefield and thus we can't discount any character from being an accomplice). It fucking sucks, simple as that...

But the way she said 'You know, your father...' makes me think she isn't really referring to the Sheriff at all. It could be Wakefield (and just because he isn't on the poster, doesn't mean he isn't there and responsible for the killings. Think outside the box, no matter how lame it may be). The sheriff said that Abby is not Wakefield's daughter so the killer must be the child that John Wakefield had with Abby's mom. I think the twist is that it was not John Wakefield that killed Abby's mom, Kelly's mom and the harbor master but the killer was Wakefield's son. We know that a man killed them from the flashback but we didn't see his face. What is true is that the John Wakefield kidnapped Madison, took the sheriff, and set up the boobytrap with the oxygen tank to cause the explosion. It was also probably Wakefield that grabbed Abby's legs in the tunnel. That means the explosion cannot be used as an alibi for any of the suspects.
