The All-American Girl Next Door.
Mathis, while not really a note worthy actress seemed to be a favorite amongst directors in the mid to late 90's.
While a big piece of elephant shit, Super Mario Bros was her first big break when she took on the role of Princess Toadstool. It was a shitty role as she didn't really bring anything to the character. How did she land this role in the first place? Were all the B-listers at the time too busy? Did she have a three way with Rocky Morton, and Annabel Jankel? What made her stand out? I will never know.
Mathis must of did something right as she then goes on to star in Little Women and How to Make an American Quit, which I'm glad I didn't see, and then Broken Arrow which I regret seeing. However with these four big movies under her belt in three short years, it seems like Mathis will soon join the ranks of A-lister. However after Broken Arrow, Mathis seemed to disappear from the silver screen. Was Broken Arrow THAT bad> Did she finally close her legs? No, someone STOLE her career.
Sort of simular in looks and 5 years younger, and about the same depth in acting ability. Jolie really started to shine about the same time Mathis
disappeared. The roles Mathis would have probably got, now went to Jolie. In a four year span, Playing By Heart, Pushing Tin, The Bone Collector, and Girl,
Interrupted, and Tomb Raider all seemd like movies Mathis would have done, but they all went to Jolie. I do think that Jolie is a better actor than Matjis and
maybe that's why she got those roles as those directors wanted you know...talent.
In the past nine years Jolie has risen to be an A-lister and one of the go to girls while Mathis has done a lot of TV spots.
Anglina Jolie is GUILTY of stealing Samantha Mathis' career, and I think that is something we all can be thankful of.
