I have to echo whoever said there are only so many monumental globally recognized places, minus the places with travel warnings, etc.

For me it's less about locations than tasks. The cheese task would've been a winner in Wisconsin. You can tailor good tasks to any location with
enough creativity.

I agree with ADC and Enrico about the Mel/Mike thing. something that hasnt been done in a while, and i do not believe they are fame pushers. they are already
sucessful. i feel they are doing it because they wanted to experience the world with each other.
I think destinations really help make the season, but it is all about the cast. You cane have the most AMAZING destinations, but the season will fail if all teams are boring. I personally love this season, because it ISNT something you see in history books or travel guides. it is different, normal life to someone else. i find that the most fascinating |

X Case in point - TAR9 and TAR13 Both had great locations (Oman and Cambodia respectively) But both casts BOMBED. TAR9 had no likeable teams and the ones that lasted far were extremely annoying. TAR13 suffered from dud casting decisions like the canon fodder hippies (again?), Antphenie (who?), Dandrew (useless), and quite possibly the dullest parent/child team ever. |

Don't forget another lame bickering couple rehash and smug, Stepford siblings who were one of the most disappointing winners in history. |

Siblings who love each other but have typical problems where one wants to always be in charge. But we just had these four types in the Final 4 last season, and all of them except Toni/Dallas had much more diverse edits and significant storylines than their equivalents this time round. Even a cast that looks great on paper can end up producing few memorable moments (and aside from Mel's two Roadblock conquests, Linda getting lost and Victor's Romania freakout, there haven't been many cast-specific great moments).

Not the usual bitching like Kendra and Flo - which makes good tv, but sick humor. We see now real reactions and real situations. Aside from the fact that others say that within six episodes, there were less memorable moments, I would have to disagree, since I believe that The Amazing Race now is targeting the more on the locations itself, aside from the cast diversity and same old, same old bitching and fighting the whole hour of the show. At least, this cast we can say now is not mactor infiltrated. |

I mean, I love India and all, but how many times do we need to visit it, or to go to boring locations? Like last season, we had two legs in Moscow, and indeed to parts of it that may not be the most exciting. With the older seasons, we had anticipation that they may visit funkier countries like Mali (Bamako, Djenne, Timbuktu, the Dogon Country) or Bosnia (Serbia, Mostar). Nowadays, we can expect that they hit up one of India/Russia/China AGAIN next season. Agreed though that the quality of tasks has gone downhill as well. We have so many generic and physical/'comedic' tasks this season. |

The order of TAR importance is:
1. Cast 2. Tasks 3. Locations I hardly ever remember the locations, I can usually remember what continent they were only but not specific countries. For instance for TAR5, which of course was an amazing amazing cast, I can remember pretty much every single task they did, but in terms of specific countries only Egypt and Russia stick out in my head. I have no idea which Asian country they were in when Colin had his Ox meltdown. In TAR3 I have no recollection of where they were when Flo had the bike meltdown, but stuff like that made the season. TAR9 definitely had an amazing race course, finally going to Greece and Japan after so many seasons but I never got to see them because I quit watching that season after 5 episodes because the cast was so hideously bad. The family edition with their awful race course was leaps and bounds better than TAR9 because the cast had some standout characters (Mama Weaver <3) TAR 8 > TAR 9 |

No one tops the mactor infiltrated cast of TARAsia 2 and 3 (3 is rather acceptable because the season itself is entertaining)! |

At first, I thought that the locations are the first, but not. In order to produce a great and epic TAR season, there must be equal amounts of each to exist. Examples: TAR 6 had a great race route, believe me, It has one of the best. But the cast was full of mactors such that those who remained in the final legs of the race are artists pretending to be racers. Half of TAR 13's cast were not supposed to be there... half of them were very stereotypical, the locations and tasks were not as awesome as other seasons, which further implied to go down to one of the least liked seasons. TAR 14 had an excellent cast, their locations for me are breathless (Especially the Germany-Austria, I don't know why people hate that leg so much - LOVED EVERY SINGLE BIT OF IT) and tasks, even though they're what they call "downhill and generic" still produces comical and good situations... Its like how could these people mess up so badly by reading a simply instructed clue? TAR 9 had an excellent race course, but bad task planning, and absofuckinlutely the worst cast ever. The locations wasn't able to pull them up for me. We got left with cassanovas and hippies and some generic couple whom we all know would place last. |

Season 5 has Bowling Moms, Charla and Mirna, Jim and Marsha, Bob and Joyce, Marshall and Lance.Marsha was a Pageant-Queen who likely got on because she knew TAR2 Alex and the Pizza Brothers were the biggest mediawhores ever since they only went on to promote their restaurants. It doesn't make a difference what someone's motivations for doing the show are if they're boring as hell. 1. CastI'd add "Editing" (or 'Story') in there too, because even a likeable cast is useless if they focus on one team or fail to build up an interesting story (which is what's happening in TAR14). We've heard of plenty of dramatic moments that ended up on the cutting room floor and pointless ones that have been blown up into major storypoints TAR13's biggest flaw was having teams that didn't engage people - but they all actually did stuff. TAR14 has "nice" people who're just 'there'. Dandrew's failures > Mark/Michael's incompetence; Kelly/Christy's comedy > Christie/Jodi's few stupid moments etc etc

I think the most important thing is ENTERTAINMENT. And this is factored on the
entertainment-value of the CAST as well as the potential for TASKS to provide the necessary drama/comedy/tragedy/twist/shocker...etc
TAR13 and TAR14 (to a lesser extent, so far) has had a tremendous lack of ENTERTAINMENT and tasks are so watered down and teams are also becoming less and less volatile. IT IS SO BORING and non-eventful... |
