Sure she's copping some Bowie and some Jem or some shit but I still think she makes it her own. Usually dance artists don't have much musical talent. She'll probably fade away in a year or two, but I could sort of see her as a 00's version of Cyndi Lauper, one of the few 80's pop princesses with real talent who was upstaged by her own shtick.

And that Poker Face song has been in my head for days. Seems like something they would play at "Studio 57" between lines of coke and trips to the glory hole.

After listening/watching the "Poker Face" video a few times, though, I can see the "artistry" - it's also a pretty good dance song. I still think she looks like a tranny though.

Until last night I had never heard a single note of her music...only read about her in the tabloids/style magazines. I thought she was great & I'm in the protected age bracket

Scissor Sisters, Tilly and the Wall - that kind of shit. Yeah, it was weird and over the top, but it seemed so planned out and derivative. GG Allin - THAT was original. Frank Zappa - THAT was original. Alien Sex Fiend - that was original. Siouxsie and the Banshees, Bauhaus, Gorillaz, Devo. These were original. Lady GaGa's whole persona is basically RuPaul meets Nina Hagen meets Grace Jones meets Les Rita Mitsouko with a little B52s thrown in. And singing stupid pop music. And her body isnt as good as I thought it was.

MrWhiteFolks is old like me. ;) It is harder to be blown away by her when you've been around long enough to have seen so many acts before her that arguably did it better (I'd add Split Enz and The Residents). I only knew her from Perez Hilton, too, as a visual entity, so was surprised to see that she has vocal and musical talent. I expected another Britney. I don't, however, care for folks who prance around stage to the detriment of their singing. I'm an old fart, I know. I want to see dancers dance, and singers sing. I don't need a ton of "entertainment" surrounding the singer - a mic and a chair is really all I need. My husband, who'd never heard of her, LOVED her. Thought it was a great spectacle, didn't care that she sounded out of tune because of it. He's in his early instead of mid-40s like me - that must be it.

Yeah, her vocals were shit for the uptempo section, but she was dancing around like a monkey!! Ever heard of Madonna? Yeah, she went nowhere. 80% of her album is terrific, and it has been the #1 or #2 album in Canada for 5 months. Guess all you haters should stick to Under-wood.
