S18-Episode 9 - Story Arcs |
Lead | |

Well I don't think you can get much more arc for Coach. How would Survivor editing ever compare to bleeding from your ears?

The only nuance we can see from Coach is how he will react when he is blindsided. If HE is blindsided we don't get the pleasure of seeing his wrath and his
ego being stomped.
But if his minion Tyson is blindsided then we get the glory of seeing Coach squirm the following episode. |

This really was a pretty thorough blindside, I think. Brendan and Sierra seemed completely surprised. Sometimes we see one where people at least consider the
possibility, and then decide they are secure and don't use their idol, but this one it seemed like was a total shock. Which means seven people, who
aren't necessarily friends or longterm allies, pulled off a pretty scary-effective conspiracy, not to let out a hint.
I think we heard last week that Stephen was the brains behind the Brendan-4, Sierra-3 plan. Was he also the smooth-talker behind pulling it off this week? I know Coach and Tyson think they were, but do they have the sort of relationships with everyone else to have held this plan together for five days? And editing gives us each of them as at least somewhat negative, while Brendan's backstabbing (or lasering) snuggle buddy is just a likeable as could be. |

Sounds like someone is having a conversation with their own self. The giveaway? The lack of capitalization, the lack of spelling and grammar, the lack of
staying on topic and the presence of two people I hardly ever see in edgic suddenly posting within minutes of each other.

i wonder if that is why he got a free rid on the hellacopter, drop him where people will beat his ass, i think jeffy pop is the only one who likes him.

Not all of us choose to post in Edgic. And speaking of respect, that's how we like to treat each other in MESS, so please don't make nasty comments that have nothing to do with the thread at hand. |

JT: I think I severely underestimated JT's charm and strategic acumen. He's got a lot more game than I had though, and I think he's in an
Ethan-like position where he could probably have his choice of people willing to take him to the end, and would probably be able to beat any opponent he faces
in the final. Question is whether or not someone (Taj, I'm thinking?) will wise and want to cut him loose before the finale.
STEPHEN: Big edit! The city slicker fending for himself on Exile and building character... I think Stephen has the power to make it to the end, and is well positioned socially. The question is whether Stephen wants to stick with JT, which, to be fair, would be a very strong duo to the end, but on the other hand, JT is the one person that I seriously doubt Stephen would be able to beat in the final... sort of like an Ozzy-Yul rematch, only JT has that weird hypnotic charm thing where everyone wants to fight over who gets the honor of losing him. Stephen, people seem to like, but they're not retardedly in love with him the way they love JT. Plus, I don't actually think the strategy of letting the various subfactions of Timbira vote each other off is a bad one... I could very easily see scenarios where the three Jalapao are the final three. TAJ: I think she's made a lot of good strategic moves in the game, but I don't think it's going to be appreciated by the jury, and I certainly don't feel as though she's made the social inroads with the Timbira that JT and Stephen have should she have to face one in the final. ERINN: Eventually, they will run out of bigger fish to fry. In the meantime, there are much bigger targets... Sierra who apparently nobody likes, Coach and Tyson.... and I think that offering herself up as being open to working with the Jalapao was smart because what other options does she have, really? SIERRA: Screwed, essentially. Coach and Tyson are actually agreeing with Erinn on something, which is a really bad sign for Sierra. Unless she wants to buy herself a little time by allowing herself to be used as a pawn by the three Jalapao to take out Tyson, she's not going to last long. Why does everyone hate her so much? She's getting that Amanda-like edit where she must be doing something to piss everyone off but as a viewing audience I can't figure out what it must be. DEBBIE: She just doesn't seem that relevant to the plot of this season. I mean, her core strategy which I must assume is to be very positive and cheerful and take one of the two assholes (Tyson or Coach) to the end and win as lesser of two evils is a sound one, but... ehh, just not that important to the endgame. TYSON: In a bizarre way, he's probably less likeable than Coach... he seems essentially to be mean-spirited and deliberately bitchy, whereas Coach is so bizarrely earnest ... I don't know. Hope he's gone soon because he's going to become more tiresome as time wears on. COACH: I almost feel sorry for the dude at this point. I've seen villains, I've seen assholes, and I've seen sociopathic attention whores, but I've not seen a guy like this before. He's like a cross between Puck and Rupert. And why the hell did those pygmies not finish the damned job? Seriously, though, he's just SO earnest and overcompensating in so many ways that I'm almost starting to pity him. He seems socially tone-deaf, and I at least appreciate the fact that, in a bizarre way, he seems committed to this fantastical vision of himself. I genuinely don't think he's putting on an act; I suspect this is how he actually views himself and the world around him. |

Based on the insider videos we know that Erinn, Brendan, Taj, Coach, Tyson and even some pre-jury people had negative things to say about Sierra. Yet we have
not seen it except from Coach and Tyson. Taj in her insider lip seemed annoyed that Sierra brag's about all the places she's travelled because
she's a model.

Coach is a nut job. Granted he's funny and entertaining in a weird sort of way. He just has no clue he is. At least he's not mean-spirited like Randy.
Why they feel the need to cast wierdos is beyond me but they've had a slew. No body is following Coach they just use him.
Tyson is arrogant, capable and genuinely funny. |

Tyson: I don't think he was as nasty this episode as other people are saying (I'll get to the preview in a minute). Yes he did say he wanted Sierra
there to boss around for three days but that's hardly calling her dragon shit is it? Coach said the nastiest thing about Sierra this episode. Tyson also
did not mention being in a power alliance (good) and Coach has never called him a warrior (also good, I'm sure C called Brendan a warrior and look where he
is). He didn't sound exceptionally braggy when he was talking about the plan to take down Brendan, either.
Now the preview, that's just dumb him telling Sierra she's stupid, which he has also said in confessionals. I highly doubt Coach is going to call her dragon shit to her face. I think this will be the first time that he's said something horrible to her personally because on the insider videos Sierra said she wanted Tyson out because he is a huge threat, not because he's a huge threat and an arsehole. However should Tyson's face to face snark negate him from the win, and I'm not sure if it will yet as there are no other previews for next week currently, my alternate theory is: Stephen: Also hasn't mentioned being in a power alliance (good) and hasn't been called a warrior by Coach. Smart, intelligent and a wizard, yes, but not a warrior. There was an interesting scene between Tyson and Stephen last week where Tyson told him that if they get rid of Brendan they'd have the game in their hands and a big smile from Stephen. So the alternate is Tyson/Stephen final 2 and Tyson's only vote is from Sierra. |

I think how nasty you think Tyson was this episode is probably in direct proportion to who you're a fan of, at least for some people.

I'm not worried or upset that Brendan and Sierra are getting attacked by Tyson. |

I feel bad for Sierra if she's being hated on for talking about all the places she's been. Well, it seems no one really cares about Coach bragging
about his fake epic adventures. Instead, they just endearingly joke about him.

If the editors would only let us see her. Like Susie, she is not allowed to tell her own story. This means she is not our winner, nor will we see much of her because she cannot be pigeon-holed in the mother hen role. Great job, Schaudenfreude |

Instead we get more confessionals from Coach. |
