and what about flowers to put in these new beds? I'm in a zone 4, so that limits me.

Specifically flower gardens. I need a border to go around 2 large pines in the front yard. what would you recommend? my front beds i have lake rock borders,
but when I weed-eat, all the grass gets blown in the beds. maybe I need bigger rocks. but whatever.

I actually don't have any problems with rabbits! I think it's cuase I feed them so they have a ready supply of food and don't get into my shit.

I just started growing some seeds, which I have never done in my life, and now I have no idea what to do with them.

Why can't you just do like a monkey grass or something.

They're totally out of control here because there are no predators.
Well, none besides me. |

you can do a do-it-yourself "topsy Turvy" upside tomato planter for like $3.
what kinda seeds, jit? Edit; thanks Wisc, but they're mostly talking about annuals in there. I want perennials. but I'll go through them some more. |

Plant annuals. Anything you want. When fall comes, they are going to die anyway. It's trickier with perennials...Most farmer's markets this time of
year are full of bedding plants and perennials. And most of the sellers can give you advice on growing them.
May I suggest visiting a nearby State College (Land Grant/Agricultural) to see if they have TRIAL gardens? A lot of universities work with seed companies and plant gardens to test out new varieties. Also any local arboretums can give you ideas on perennials that are hardy for your area and they usually have interesting layouts you can copy for your own garden. |

mostly herbs, but also some peppers and cherry tomatoes. I don't have much space, so they'll have to be potted. But I don't know what to do with
them - the tomato plants are now growing real leaves, so I need to move them, but I don't know what to. So I just kind of go look at them every morning and
say awww you're cute little tomato plant! And then I am at a loss.

hey! herbs! i did some potted ones last year: coupla kinds of basil, dill, chives um, some rosemary maybe?
anyway. will they just come back this year or do i have to start the process all over again every year from scratch? if so, i can use the same dirt right? |

I put Hostas under a spruce tree last year and they did ok.

jit, just put the tomatoes in a bigger pot in full sun and water and mulch the tops. same with peppers and herbs.
bitty, thanks. I'll look into a local arboretum and see what they say. Edit: blond- some herbs will come back, like chives, sometimes the dill will reseed itself and tyme. others like basil are annuals and you;ll need ot replant. I was thinking of hostas, but I have so many that I wanted to do something more... flowery |

Baby Please wrote:Ah. I'd suggest lilies of the valley, they grow pretty much anywhere. But they also get out of control pretty easily. We used to have them growing in front of the house when I was a kid, but one summer my dad got pissed off with them taking over the more and more of lawn every year, and dug them all out. I guess if you built planting boxes around the trees, you could probably contain them. |

how big does it need to be? I am frankly shocked that I haven't killed any of them yet.

wisc, lillies could work but like you said, I don't want them getting everywhere.
Jit, I'd do a 5 gallon bucket size. the herbs don't need that much though, just a decent sized planter. |

I have 8 little tomato plant shoots, and 4 of everything else. Can I put the herbs together, or do they need separate planters? will the tomatoes try to attack
my house like my bougainvillea that won't fucking die?

Plant the basil and tomatoes in the same container.
They make eachother taste better. |

the herbs should do fine together, jsut make sure they have enough space. and you can put 2 tomato plants in one bucket.
edit; ohh yeah what ill said. and its supposed to keep away bugs! |
