Great, that's good advice. Looking again at the map, it's not really that far out of the way. I might go for it after all. cheers

It's not too much out of the way if you want to spend time in downtown Montreal. If you want to go straight to the border form the airport then it's
out of the way

ilikelissie wrote:I've honestly never heard the architecture of Albany described any better than this. Actually I used to work at the Legislative Office Building, which I described to anyone who asked as a "Church to Modernism." The funniest thing is that the whole complex was only built to impress some princess from the Netherlands. lol. |

I'm off on my trip tonight! So if you're driving on the #9 or #5 in the next few weeks and see a single cyclist who looks like a young Paul Newman,
that'll be me. AND SHARE THE ROAD ASSHOLE!

Are you able to take a quick side trip to Chicago. There's some great restaurants and shopping there.

Come to the tulipfest in Albany!!! It's so pretty! (oh and a lot less dumb than it sounds)
Schenectady is a shithole, but there are definitely some things to do if you really want ideas I can give you some... |

I didn't know you were in Albany, April. I'm not terribly far from there.

I'll be in Albany around the 7th-8th! When's the festival? I'll be in Schenectady probably around the 11th. Won't be able to make it to
Chicago, however.

good, the tulip fest starts the 8th. Heres's some info: http://www.albany.com/news/tulip-festival.cfm . I mean, it's really nice. Definitely can waste a little
bit of time there, at least. If you like Mexican food I *HIGHLY* suggest bombers burritos!! The burritos are like
bigger than your thigh. If there's one thing you do/see/eat, go there, please.I really would try to swing by Saratoga Springs if you are looking for shit
to do that doesn't suck. There's a racino, cute little town. Check out the stadium if you head there for some reasonabley priced food in a decent
atmosphere. Schenectady, you can count the number of teethless people and/or crimes you witness.
o o o o I just remembered! We have the biggest walmart in the nation in Albany!!

Alright, I made it to Albany! Nice little city. Empire Square is pretty fab, what with the crazy bombastic monumental Rockefeller modernist buildings, and all.
The Egg is a site to behold, as well.
Here's the route I've taken so far: Day 1 Montreal to Brossard (bike malfunctions prevented me from going further) Day 2 Brossard to the US border. Day 3 US border to Plattsburgh where I met up with friends. Day 4 Plattsburgh to Elizabethtown - wonderful place in the Adirondacks - stayed in hotel owned by a nice drunk Irishman, Day 5 Eliazbethtown to Ticonderoga - This was an insane route (the #7) - up and down mountains the entire way. Fucking exhausting. Ti's a bit of a hole, but the owners of an ice-cream shop let us camp for free on their lawn. Day 6 Ticonderoga to Fort Ann - Fort Ann is full of hillbillies. I asked a guy what the main industry in the town is and he answered "Not much of noth'n ... stores, I guess." Day 7 Fort Ann to Albany - our longest day yet - 100 km. Brief observations: 1. very economically depressed region - I've never seen so many closed up shops and houses with piles of random crap stored everywhere. 2. everyone we met was extremely friendly and helpful. 3. on the other hand, everyone we met has been extremely fat. It's shocking really. Even the kids are fat. 4. we biked through Albany's hood. I've never been gawked at so much. 5. upstate New York is extremely whitebread 6. loved the old colonial architecture 7. Labatts Blue is a very popular imported beer. 8. it rains a lot here in the morning and late afternoon. Biking in the rain sucks balls. Next rest-stop Syracuse! |

Forgot to say that I went to the State Capitol today and sat in the observation gallery for a series of votes. All the representatives were talking and
checking their Twitter and there were two women doing arts and crafts of some sort (literally knitting things and putting paste on construction paper for some
enigmatic reason).
