Speak in Chinese task HATE |
Lead | |
|
I don't really mind Tammy & Victor (or any of the other teams except Jamie), but that leg was really unfair. They have a team that speaks fluent
Chinese (that doesn't mind rubbing it in everyones' faces), and one contestant who's deaf, so it's stupid that they would divide teams so much
by their unusual abilities.

Seriously. And if there's no bunch up next leg and Tammy and Victor win cause speaking Chinese got them so far ahead of everyone else then fuck that.

Did you watch the preview? There is a bunching.

Luke and Bob getting U-Turned and having to do this one would have been TV magic.

Luke and Bob getting U-Turned and having to do this one would have been TV magicEverything involving Luke/Bob is TV excrement And this was one of the only good tasks of the season. You could just as easily fault dozens of tasks as being more within some racers' experience (omg Don panned for gold, worked with animals and in masonry, how unfair!)

Hopefully one of the next roadblocks involve sign language.

I guess it was kinda unfair.
However the China leg was F4/F5. There was NO guarantee Tammy/Victor were going to make it that far and they almost were eliminated a few times. ASIANOWNAGE FTW PLZ. |

You can't learn Mandarin in just a couple of minutesBut you didn't have to learn Mandrin to do the task, you just have to repeat the prounciations. If anything, it didn't seem to help T/V all that much since their familiarity with it caused the "squid" mistake. They had a huge advantage just navigating by being able to communicate with the locals; whatever advantage they got here was negligible (especially since the opera task could have easily been quicker if the teams didn't bleed so much time trying to find the U-Turn) |

I agree, I think that going to a country where the racers speak the language is just good luck. But to make a task based on language skills is really unfair
when one team is fluent. Especially in China, Chinese is a very difficult language to learn, I now live in my city's chinatown, and have worked with
cantonese speaking people for 20 years and I have learned only a few phrases and words.
I loved Kisha's comment "We're black not chinese!" Could you imagine the meltdown that Jamie would have had if they would have had to do this task. Kudos to the sistuhs for getting that task done. They must have given them a bit of leeway in pronunciation. And agree pinkdolphin, they should have an equalizing sign language task roadblock in the final leg. And to make it fair a cheerleading routine or a bad haircoloring challenge for a detour to give the redheads some advantage. edited to add: I don't agree dying clown (love your new avatar..hilarious). I think there is little language advantage with the traveling. They were tied at the mat last episode, you can still end up with a bad cab driver and someone else has english speaking driver who is more efficient. Have you ever tried to speak chinese or listened to the pronuciations? T/V are very very correct that the smallest difference in intonation means something completely different. T/V were extremely lucky to have that task.

"Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah Bob" is, loosely translated, "Please, Mother, I want you to keep me totally dependent upon you for the rest of my miserable life." Roughly. Ginger Snappers FTW!!! F3 baby! |

Whereas speaking Mandarin didn't seem to help that much - the task was just "recite these 20-ish syllables properly", which is a completely general skill. Obviously it kinda sucks for Luke, but it's not like he ever contributes in the tasks anyway. |

Oh, and T/V got a big advantage simply by having two legs in China.

But having a task that you had to LISTEN and then SPEAK any language... gave an advatage to the hearing people. only margie could have done that task luke
couldn't hear the people.
I think the sisters got a break... after 4 or 5 tries just give it to them. etc... Asian languages are extremely complex, depends on what syllable you imphasize. That's why team asian said Squid instead of fish at first. You can say the word right but imphasize the wrong syllable and you get another word. My brother speaks Thai and when living in bangkok he always said the food I think Im ordering is never the food i get... fried fish SKINs instead of Fried squid etc... So yes, it was a huge advantage to them...It was also MANDARIAN...the language they speak not Cantonese or another dialietc. It was a road block that coulds have been tweaked to level the playing field (not that putting make-up on was hard!!) Being able to speak the language of a country you go to...fine that's good luck... Having just travel to the city where the race takes place ...again good luck. Many racers have lived or visited the countries they visit in the race etc... But having a speicific task that was a HUGE advantage... come on. |
