Wait... the funeral was really cut? That is one of the most emotional filled chapters in the entire series.

They prolly cut in order to have some more Ron/Lavander or Harry/Ginny canoodling.

OK, I was going to keep my mouth shut to try for once in my life to sound too cool to care... but THEY CUT THE FUNERAL?
This is truly fucked up. *weeps* |

The only movie that left any lasting impression in my mind was Prisoner of Azkaban. I'll still see this though.

I am having surgery on the 14th, and when I realized that this would prevent me from seeing the movie until early August, there was a split second where I
considered trying to reschedule the operation.
I think I need help. |

Bilkis, you have it switched around -- the fifth book was one of the more droll books while the movie actually managed to make it enjoyable, especially the
Ministry of Magic scenes towards the end.
If they cut the funeral, not only is that leaving out one of the more emotional scenes of the series, in addition to setting up the trio for the next book, it could leave audiences who never read the book really confused when everyone goes off in search of the deathly hallows. |

I'm gobsmacked about the funeral, too.
I never re-read before the movie. I like being kind of forgetful about some minor stuff and then get the oh yeahs. It's a little fresher that way. |

In addition to the funeral, I guess they also removed the battle itself (the Death Eaters still invade the school, obviously, but the bulk of it probably
won't be shown onscreen).
in addition to setting up the trio for the next book, it could leave audiences who never read the book really confused when everyone goes off in search of the deathly hallows. You don't need the funeral to give them dialogue setting up the next year. They could have that conversation in any setting. The way I'd always envisioned the ending is that Harry packs, and walks out of the school and across the grounds, flanked by Ron and Hermione, perhaps saying something wistful, with no music playing. The camera eventually stops tracking them and just pans on them as they walk by it, and stops panning when they pass by Dumbledore's grave in the background. The kids then walk out of frame while it lingers on the grave, and then slowly fades out, again with no music. But I came up with that before DH when I was absolutely convinced Dumblydore was still alive and was constructing this whole conspiracy based on clues throughout the books. That was probably the biggest red herring (red phoenix?) in the history of literature. |

So, have they given any insight as to why they cut the funeral? Makes absolutely no sense to me.
Good luck w/ the surgery, SI. |

Monsieur Muggles wrote:i mean apart from the angsty harry bullshit i feel like the 5th book was pretty good; i think it felt like it would translate to a movie the best for whatever reason. and i think the ministry of magic scenes sucked. maybe i was in the wrong mood when i saw the movie but all i remember is that they would fly around in puffs of smoke for some reason and sirius's death was underwhelming. the dumbledore / voldemort fight was neat (? i really don't entirely remember) but by that point i kind of didn't care. maybe i'll rewatch it before the next one comes out, but based on my reaction coming out of the theatre it was worse than all but the first two (which suuuuuuuuucked) |

Apparently to make room for the extended teenybopper romance story line.
PS. will SI change his avi when he's post-op? And will we call him "her" then? |

My husband and I were talking about this thread and the movie last night and he said "you know what upset me more than ****** dying?" and all of a sudden I was all "omg, that's right, ****** dies!!!!" and the t.ears started right away. I told my husband that he might as well sit on the other side of the theater from me, to save him embarrassment. I'm very tenderhearted. (I know, I know, what the hell am I doing in sucks?) |

It seems like I read somewhere that the battle scene at Hogwarts was cut out of HBP because of the huge battle of Hogwarts at the end of DH. I can understand
that. They final battle at the end of DH is supposed to be very epic, and it might take away from that if they show virtually the same thing in HBP too.
