I think you cannot revere something that you have no interest in understanding. Thus, to me, curiousity comes before respect. Most religous people that I've known in my life think its blasphemous to try and understand anything. Human are indoctrined to follow rules, which is why the Bible exists. The Bible is like looking at the universe through a used straw.
Absolutely agree with this. The search for meaning itself is the greatest human achievement. Our foreknowledge of our own deaths is the only thing I believe that separates us from other animals.
