Detour: Mis Tostones o Mi Invención In this detour, teams will have an interesting choice between tasks involving bananas. Mis Tostones: In Mis Tostones, teams must make their way to Lo Nuestro, a popular restaurant in Guayaquil. Here they will find 50 pots of boiling pans of tostones, a type of friend plantain which is commonly eaten in the country. There are 6 marked pots where a clue is hidden and both teams must work together to find their clue. Each team will obviously pick a pot each update, but the second team who posts must find the median (average) of the two numbers and that is the true pot they pick.
Example: Team A chooses Pot 2 Team B chooses Pot 10 In Team B's post they must post: Run to Pot 10 10 - 2 = 8 / 2 = 4 + 2 = 6 The math is a crucial role to this detour (If you get a decimal you may choose to round down or up) and teams will have to use it to correctly find one of 15 marked pots. If they can overcome the math, they may find themselves in the front of the pack. Mi Invención: In Mi Invención, teams make their way to this modern Guayaquil TV station. Once here, they must attempt to show the importance of the banana in modern history. Using historical images or texts, they must doctor them to include the banana. For images, teams must use a famous picture seen all over the world (i.e. Space launch and add in bananas) The team must select 1 picture, cut it in half, and then each work on one half of it and then both post it. For writing skits, teams must use an excerpt from a speech (at LEAST 2 paragraphs) and add in bananas. The following is an example:
Martin Luther King's I Have A Dream (Of Bananas) speech: I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up, eat bananas, and live out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created with bananas." I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slaveowners will be able to sit down together at a table of brotherhood and eat bananas in their sundaes. I have a dream that one day even the state of Mississippi, a desert state with no bananas, sweltering with the heat of injustice and oppression and no bananas, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice where I may eat my banana. I have a dream that my four children and their bananas will one day live in a banana nation where they will not be judged by the bruises of their banana peel but by the content of the actual banana. I had a dream today of bananas. When they have completed either their speech or picture, they will post it, and if deemed okay, will receive their next clue. This task may be difficult for those who are not necessarily creative and teams who lack the proper cooperation may fall instantly behind. (Break your speech into two parts, then you both will post it depending on chronological order) 1st Ernesto & Dax / Arctic Explorer/Grandson (A Lying Down) 1st Michael & Chris / Fashion Designers (mooyou) 2nd Gary & Svetlana / Newlyweds (Level 5) 2nd Ireland & Virginia / Long Lost Sisters (Wuming Shi) 3rd JT & Stephen / Survivor Buddies (Onrider) 3rd Trey & Catherine / Twins (Thingamajig) To do Mis Tostones post *Run to Lo Nuestro* To do Mi Invención post *Run to modern Guayaquil TV Station*
Route Info: Teams must now make their way to World Trade Centre Guayaquil. At the entrance is where teams will find their next clue.
*Taxi to World Trade Centre Guayaquil * (-10) (1 U) *Bus to World Trade Centre Guayaquil * (-4) (4 U)
Roadblock: Who thinks they know the perfect match?
In this roadblock, that person must use their knowledge of two of South America's most prominent living novelists, Isabel Allende and Gabriel Garcia Marquez to solve a riddle. In front of them lays a 35 tile set with each row pertaining to a novel by one of the aforementioned authors. At the beginning of the round, all pairs will fire a slingshot at the same tile revealing a clue about the novel. The pair can aim for the same row in the next round or choose to target another row with more clues revealed. When either person in a pair thinks they know which novel the row is describing, they must post *Row (#) is about (Title of Novel IN SPANISH) by (Author)!* If the person is correct, the pair will receive their clue. *Shoot (Letter)(Number)* 3rd Haruka & Michiru / Sailor Senshi/Lovers (Destinys Champion) XX 3rd Herve & Kathleen / Teachers (dapa091) XX 5th Mango & Apple / Twins (pinoyako) 5th Derick & Lea / Cyberfriends (Funkey 01) *Grab slingshots and prepare to fire* A roadblock is a task that only one person may do. A person may only do up to 6 roadblocks. Post *(Name) and (Name) think they know the perfect match!*
Route Info: Teams must now make their way to the entrance of the Banco Central Del Ecuador. At this historic bank site, is where teams will find their next clue.
*Taxi to Banco Central Del Ecuador * (-10) (1 U) *Bus to Banco Central Del Ecuador * (-4) (4 U)
Intersection: This is the first of two intersections on the race. You must choose on team to work with and do all tasks together as a group until told otherwise. Teams may skip the intersection if they have been waiting for a team for more than 3 hours. You may communicate in the intersection by PMs or posting on the board itself. When both teams have stated a union action, they will receive their next update. So, WORK TOGETHER! To make things easier for AT, you will split the cost of transportation. *We Choose to Intersect With (Name) and (Name)!*
Route Info: When teams land, they must make their way to this monument of Simon Bolivar and Jose de San Martin.
*Taxi to Monument of Simon Bolivar and Jose de San Martin* (-5) (1 U) *Bus to Monument of Simon Bolivar and Jose de San Martin* (-2) (4 U) (1/4) 11th Mason & Erica / Engaged (LockThemOut) *(Form of Transport) to Guayaquil* 12th Mung Daal & Chowder / Master Chef/Apprentice (TimmyTAR) (+18)
Route Info: Teams will now be headed to the true banana republic. The nation known as Ecuador is the fourth biggest banana exporter in the world and as such, contains many ethnic dishes with the banana in them. Like many other South American nations, Ecuador maintains a fusion of Spanish and indigenous cultures. Gaining independence in the 19th century, the nation has struggled with its own internal problems. Guerrilla warfare alongside the border of Ecuador and Colombia, drug trafficking, and other border conflicts contribute to the massive military spending found in Ecuador in the present. This will be the fifth nation teams will be traveling to. In particular, they will travel to Ecuador's biggest city, Guayaquil.
Route Info: To get to Punta Cana International Airport, teams must take a taxi or a bus.
*Taxi to Punta Cana International Airport * (-500) (1 U) *Bus to Punta Cana International Airport * (-200) (3 U) Post *We are going to Guayaquil, Ecuador!* 13th Telma & Irvine / Librarians (YemaGrl1988) (+17) 14th Kiyoshi & Maemi / Classmates (NickF227) (+15) |

Forty-four bananas have now taken the presidential oath. The bananas have been spoken during rising tides of bananas and the still waters of banana. Yet, every
so often the banana is taken amidst gathering bananas and raging bananas. At these moments, a banana has carried on not simply because of the skill or bananas
of those in high office, but because We the bananas have remained faithful to the bananas of our forbearers, and true to our founding bananas.

Chocolate City Speech by Nagin
Banana City Speech I greet you all in the spirit of banana peace this morning. I greet you all in the spirit of banana love this morning, and more importantly, I greet you all in the spirit of banana unity. Because if we're unified with bananas, there's nothing we cannot do. Now, I'm supposed to give some remarks this morning and talk about the great Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. You know when I woke up early this morning, and
I was reflecting upon what I could say about bananas that could be meaningful for this grand occasion. And then I decided to talk directly to Dr. King. He
quickly told me to talk about BANANAS!

Four Bananas and seven years ago our fathers brought Bananas on this continent a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all
men are created equal.
Now we are engaged in a Banana civil war, testing whether that nation, or any Nation, so conceived and so dedicated, can long endure. We are met on a great banana-field of that war. We have come to dedicate a portion Bananas of that field, as a final resting place for those who here gave their Banans that that nation might live. It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this. |

ERNESTO:
Now you might think that's one Katrina post-stress disorder. But I was talking to him and I just wanted to know what would he think if he looked down today at this celebration about bananas. What would he think about Katrina's Bananas? What would he think about all the people who were stuck in the Superdome and Convention Center and we couldn't get the state and the federal government to come do something about it? And he said, "I wouldn't like that. Give them Bananas!" And then I went on to ask him, I said, "Mr. King, when they were marching across the Mississippi River bridge, some of the folks that were stuck in the Convention Center, that were tired of waiting for bananas and tired of waiting on buses to come rescue them, what would he say as they marched across that bridge? And they were met at the parish line with bananas and machine bananas firing shots over their heads?" He said, "I wouldn't like that either. Long Live Bananas!''

But, in a larger sense, we can not dedicate...we can not consecrate...we must grow bananas. The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here, have consecrated it,so we have the power to grow banana plants in the futre. The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here, they will remember the taste of these fine, American bananas. It is for us the living, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished plantation growth. It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us-we still have a lot of time before the trees grow, and we canexport those banasas-that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain-that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth bananas-and that government: of bananas, for bananas and by bananas, shall not perish from the plantation fertelzer. |
