Fuller seems to have had a theme going here - both about social strife in the 1960s.

Oh come on, Reggie, did any of us really EVER want to like Kara, LOL? I'll buy all your Adam and Sherie-bashing but you REALLY wanted to like Kara??? You've lost all credibility.Oh have I really ever had any credibility? I thought that was lost as soon as I rooted against one of my own "people." Kris's second performance = pure Kris Allen. Love it. I'm gonna miss that slanted jaw so effin' much this summer. Le sigh. |

Kris Allen.
What's Goin' On by Marvin Gaye Good choice potentially for Kris, as he sits on a stool with the guitar. Interesting start with the volume low, but building nicely in the second line. Didn't need that gratuitous stop there, though; lagniappe. Nice shot of the drummer getting into the beat, and so am I. Nice vocal, if safe; good feel and good rhythm. A solid 7, maybe an 8. Randy: You know what's crazy? We have a real duel. I love it. Great choice of song for this time. Only thing is, it's a little light for this competition at this point. Audience: BOOOOOOOOOOO! (Of course, it was a Simon Fuller choice, so Randy is - as usual - off base.) Kara: Socially conscious song! You're the kind of artist that can make people feel, and make them change! Paula: You tore that song up and made Marvin Gaye proud! Simon: I loved the song, but if I'm being honest it was like 3 friends in a bedroom strumming along to Marvin Gaye. You did not grab hold of the song or make it your version. Too laid back for this occasion. |

Not memorable.
I didn't like Adam's song either, but it was still better than this one just based on technical merit. |
