140. Debbie Beebe (Survivor: Tocantins - 6th Place)

Ah, Debbie was a big favorite before the season because she seemed to have a lot of energy, she was an older woman, and most importantly, she was one of the earliest contestants spoiled for the seasons due to a random shot of her emerging from the water during a challenge. And while the expectations we all had for her weren't without merit, the editting through Debbie, a very interesting personality, under the bus. It was four or five episodes before she actually got a confessional, and even then, she was one of the most ignored players in the game. Still, she had her moments, and her relationship with Tyson was hilarious because he would do the most random shit just to embarass her and she would get embarassed, right on cue. She was a major force in the "JT is so awesome and I want him to win" movement on Timbira, but I can forgive her for that. The fact that she, a 40+ year old woman actually became one of the stronger challenge competitors in the game was very impressive and made me happy at the time.


139. Chet Welch (Survivor: Micronesia - 14th Place)

I'm not gonna say Chet was a big character, because he really was a follower and a sheep who kept his mouth shut and basically spent his time in the game looking after the chickens. He was also the second in a string of progressively more flamboyant gay guys cast from China to Gabon, but while he was pretty blatant, that wasn't what his character was all about. The reason Chet manages to make it this high on my list, despite being such a relatively unimportant character in Micronesia, is threefold. One, he was part of the best alliance of the season, with two of the best fans in the game, making up the old people on the Airai tribe. Two, he posted on Sucks after the season was over, despite having such a small fanbase, and he didn't pussy out and run off (right away, at least, he just didn't stick around). And third, the most important of all, Chet absolutely failed in many, many ways at the challenges. It was hilarious to watch him try (and fail) to swim, or to do pretty much whatever task was assigned to him. Prior to the season, Courtney had been a pretty bad competitor, as had been Lydia in Guatemala, but Chet just brought it to new levels of comedic brilliance with his horrible bellyflop dive attempt. When he was finally voted off due to his injury (he didn't quit, he asked to be voted out, rather than medevaced), it was a shame, because he had been making some great television.


138. Hunter Ellis (Survivor: Marquesas - 14th Place)

I already ranked Gina pretty low, and Hunter had pretty much the same storyline, only he was more macho and was voted out earlier. Maraamu had a lot of funny people on the tribe, but Hunter was a bit too serious at times and while I can appreciate hard workers, I just can't appreciate him on that particular tribe. Hunter was an alpha male, no doubt about that. I mean, having been a former air force pilot, it was difficult for him NOT to want to take charge and have things go his way. So early on, he made a mistake of booting Peter, another alpha male who wanted to take charge. That weakened the tribe as a whole and led to them going on a losing streak. But even so, Hunter would've been safe had he not been so much of a threat. Because while he was threatened by other alpha males vying for his power, so was Boston Rob, and Boston Rob decided to take him out instead of Hunter's closest ally, Gina. Hunter's blindside was amazing simply because it came out of absolutely nowhere, and it was a move that was unheard of back in the days of keeping the strong around for tribe strength. He called out the lazy players in his final words, but overall, Hunter just can't rank higher.


137. Coby Archa (Survivor: Palau - 9th Place)

Yeah, the Koror tribe may have had fewer people I hated, but it also had fewer people, overall, that I even gave a shit about. Coby is another of the ones I didn't really care too much about. He pissed me off early on by befriending Angie and then leaving her to dry and in a position where she could've been the first woman booted from the season, had Wanda not been even worse of a candidate for the tribe. Coby was, of course, stuck in his minority four alliance of freaks and weirdos, where he was a strong contributor to the tribe, both physically and mentally. That's why he was so threatening to Tom that Tom wanted to throw challenges just to boot Coby from the game, but Ulong just sucked THAT badly that even when they threw challenges, Koror would still win. So Coby made it all the way to the merge where he immediately overplayed his hand (mainly because he didn't have the numbers, even with Steph on his side, to make a move) and he was the first player booted at the merge. He was, however, the only person to vote for Katie, which was nice of him, and at the reunion, he revealed that he was going to name his adopted daughter Janu, which was such an absolutely sweet display of friendship between the two.


136. Maralyn Hershey (Survivor: Australia - 14th Place)

Man, this update has been harsh to the fourteenth place finishers, and Maralyn is the third and final one to appear this time around. Honestly, I don't really remember why I ranked her this high, other than the fact that I just felt that she was so sweet and lovable, because she tried to act so tough, despite really being a weak, old lady. She was friends with Tina, who sadly had to boot her when she became just too much of a physical liability to handle. Still, she had some funny moments, like during the gross food challenge in the second episode when she actually pulled out her dentures, either to try and intimidate the Kucha member she was going up against, or just to gum down whatever she had to eat that much faster. She was certainly an interesting personality, and she just happened to get stuck with the far lesser tribe of the season. Seriously, I don't think anyone on Kucha was really a physical dud compared to Ogakor, who at the very least had Mitchell, Tina and Mad Dog to deal with.
