Bad Lieutenant has been on my favorite 5 movies list of all time, since the day I saw it.
Here is my current gripe against this apparent disaster in the making. 1.) Werner Herzog is a fucking asshole, he said he never saw Bad Lieutenant. Which to me, means he is an asshat. It is "the" singular work of art in American cop movies. 2.) You have Nicolas Cage and Val Kilmer in this film, and you have Cage play the destructive and tormented lead??? What fucking planet did I land on. 3.) They are claiming this is not a remake (when they say that, it usually sucks ass) 4.) Herzog says it is a new form/style of film noir. THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE TRADITIONAL FORM OF FILM NOIR, ADOLPH!!! 5.) Expecting anyone to equal or top Harvey Keitel's performance in Bad Lieutenant is like expecting to remake Godfather 1 & 2 and do a better job. IMPOSSIBLE! |

Seriously, you'll never beat Harvey jerking it next to the car of teenagers

I don't think more than three or four actors could have done the job Harvey did.
Scum with a badge, and you still cheer him on. Kilmer could possibly do it, if he brought his Tombstone level A-game. |

I like those home-life scenes; there he is, trying to connect, talk with the missus, connect with the kids, maybe eat, something, watch a game on tv. . .
normal stuff--NO, IT WON'T WORK, ten thousand drugs in his brain, ten thousand bucks owed to bokies and dealers, ten thousand strung-out hookers. . good
bad keitel, good good abel

I saw the first Bad Lt. - had to shut it off after 20 minutes it was so bad.
I don't get the love. |

In fact, BL, perfect definition of tragedy. You know his team is going to lose; you know he will put all his money on the game; it's watching him
self-distruct that's so enjoyable. The inevitability of it all spells a classic. No, Jake, this post cannot fail. (And that scene in the Korean grocery. .
.) I lent my copy to my son--claims thugs come into his place and stole it, right. Opening now, BL, the opera! (Abel kinda looks like Rossini.)
