The General was easily my fave pre-season. I've always liked blue-collar New Yorker tough guys, which is what I thought he was. Just from the looks of him, I expected a huge character with a larger than life personality, but just like Zoe, I was mislead by first impressions. The General turned out to be UTR and just as boring as Zoe. I still rooted for him because he looked like a nice guy with strong convictions, but when his alliance got outplayed, my opinion of him crashed and burned. When he didn't get his way, this New Yorker roughian turned out to be more like a whiney brat, constantly pouting and acting like nothing was fair and distancing himself from people. Just like Colleen and Elisabeth before him, The General found himself the last member Pagonged out of his alliance. This may sound extrmeely sexist and homophobic but when two women and a gay men are booted before you because they are considered more threatening, I would seriously re-evaluate my tough guy status. And of course being the last one booted out of his alliance meant he had plenty of time to save himself, people even threw him life jackets and he just refused to cooperate. Finally he had the audacity to bitch at the final 2 during his jury speech. Bitch, please! It's not anyone's else fault than yours if you didn't play the game.

We saw later that he was right about her and Kathy believed him ("Zoe's lying to me! They are all lying to me!") also when she voted against Zoe (Z.Z.) rather than against Rob. I loved that stretch of episodes. It took 4 seasons for people to finally start playing the game.

Anyway, my "disappointing" castaways from the first five seasons are a little different because I only watched Borneo-Thailand in retrospect, after hearing about it. So it's not a case of me thinking anyone would be great only to see them crash and burn, but rather, me hearing that they would be great and then not being impressed with them myself. So on that list, I'd include Gretchen (who was supposed to be incredibly lovable but who didn't appeal to me whatsoever when I watched S1), Kimmi (I cannot understand how anyone liked her), Kelly G (sorry beatles, but she's incredibly overrated and brought very little to the show), Jessie/Gina/Tanya (they all randomly have supporters despite not being that attractive and all being total dead weight on the show), Paschal (this was the "likable gentleman who was screwed by the PROD"?), Penny (just because I was expecting a major villain), and Stephanie (because I actually saw her audition video before watching the early episodes of Thailand). Oh, but Mitchell's someone who I genuinely thought would be great judging by the first couple episodes of Australia, but who ended up being a huge disappointment.

Posts: 18309 (06/02/09 4:37 PM) Registered user Reply Quote More Recent Posts Message Connection Block Invite	Erin Collins When spoilers surfaced about Erin going really far in the game, not only did we think she'd be Sarah Jones 2.0, but one who would last long. Like Sarah, we expected an immature party chick with a huge rack that would make all the young guys in her season melt. Wether or not you like that type, they're always good to have around for entertainment purposes. So I was quite shocked when I realized that Erin seemed to be the exact opposite. She was a hard worker, mature and level-headed, which threw any preconceived notions we had about her out the window. I was pleasantly surprised by this outcome and started rooting for, but as the weeks went by she started deteriorating into another Amber and one that would get even less air time if that was even possible. Erin became one of Survivor's biggest followers/coattail riders and she was Penny's laptog of all people. As if that didn't suck enough, both Erin and the viewers were shocked to find out that even her social game sucked as when it came down to the core SookJai 4 cannibalizing each other, she was the first one unanimously dropped out. Not even her buddy Penny bothered fighting for her. So in a nutshell, Erin started off as the femme fatale in our first impressions of her, then surprised us by defying stereotypes and finally just ended up being another pointless young chick whom got less air time than her tribe's flag pole.

I think we've discussed to death the many reasons why he was such a let down, but for me, it hit me much harder because on paper, Ken was my dream castaway. He was a NYPD officer, personal trainer, biker and I think even UFC fighter or something (I think I read that somewhere back then). He was a dog lover and his favorite's list was the most macho yet in Survivor history. So in short, he was the ultimate tough guy/golden boy/American hero that I have been yearning for all this time. So you can only imagine my distress when one by one, these fictional layers that I imposed on him started peeling away and even well after the show was done. Where to start? First of all he wasn't a physical competitor at all. He either performed poorly or sat out on challenges, claiming it was to hide his strenght, although we all knew it's because he couldn't deliver and was trying to avoid being in the spotlight. We later had confirmation of that in the merge episode when he got his ass handed by some of the weaker, older Sook Jai members. It's one thing not to perform in challenges the way people expected of you, but it was quite another to take it out on those who did. Jed was clearly the challenge God at SookJai and wouldn't you know it, Ken immidiately set up his boot. Now granted, Jed was a social outcast and he did come off as a total dick, but why the rush to kick him out when there were so many better candidates? I could be wrong, but it seemed jealousy-motivated to me. Sadly Ken continued letting me down even after the show was done. He quit his job as a cop and countless pictures of him in his full metrosexual glory have started popping up here. It was the last straw of the once men's man image I had of him. It's like all his life he hid behind a macho image but secretly yearned to be an out and proud metrosexual club boy Although I have met Ken and he's really nice, which sucks to include him in this thread, but he just wasn't the castaway I thought he would be.

Posts: 18311 (06/02/09 5:08 PM) Registered user Reply Quote More Recent Posts Message Connection Block Invite	Shawna Mitchell Despite many people that stuck out when the Amazon cast was released, Shawna looked like the biggest breath of fresh air to me. She didn't look like any Survivor chick we've ever had, yet had a Colleenesque vibe about her. Would she be the spunky sweetheart that Jessie, Neleh and Tanya have all failed to be? The answer was no. Well for one thing, Shawna immidiately bonded with the mean girls, making her one of them, albeit the nicest. Still it was interesting to see where her edit would go from there? Would she remain their sidekick? Or would she break free from them and turn on them? I guess we'll never know since she was just an epic fail. Throughout most her time she was ignored than fell sick and that was pretty much the end of her. She did have a short sequence where she was revived by Alex's arrival, proving that she could be a potential Amber: As in, useless young hottie who doesn't do squat excpet wet herself for the worst douchebags. Fortunatly she was promptly booted before anything could happen. Speaking of which, it kinda speaks volume of her sucktitude the fact that she was booted by her own friends in the most cliquish season of Survivor ever. And the thing that especially irritates me about her is that all the Jenna/Heidi fans on this board still keep praising her solely because of her affiliation with the latter. I was never a Jendi fan but at least they were great characters.......Shawna, not so much.

Just when my alpha dad phase started to bloom, Roger looked like he would fit the bill perfectly. He seemed to have the fatherly niceness of Outback Roger with but with an athletic edge. So pretty much another Jake. But I was sadly wrong on all fronts. Roger was survivor's biggest biggot. One of the few who actually had the whole trifecta down: Sexist, racist and homophobic. Not quite surprising that he always pops up last on popularity polls here. He did manage to step in the leadership role as I predicted, but it was obviously not a solid one as everyone quickly turned on him at the merge. Other than Dave and Butch, he really failed to garner respect from anyone on his season. And pre-show I thought him and Shawna would be the next Liz/Rodger Pappy/Neleh. How wrong I was. Although he did have anice fatherly moment with Christy when she switched tribes, but that went to hell quick. Sidenote on Roger: I remember that he once came to Sucks and someone asked him to rank the 5 previous winners. His list went as follow: Brian Ethan Richard Tina Vecepia He really needs to learn subtlety

What can I say about Alex? He initially seemed like a nice guy. His bio said that he was an ex-junkie/bad boy who now coaches and insipre kids. Sounded pretty cool, but of course this is reality TV and reality is often ugly. Alex did start off okay, for one thing standing up to Roger's biggotry. He actually seemed like the most popular in the men's tribe. But we found out that he was nothing more than another Boston Rob. Another shit-for-brains frat boy who's more interested in scoring with chicks on national TV to show how cool he is than playing the game. At least Morono did play the game. The fact that he lusted over Shawna and Jenna, both whom were 10 years younger than him, shows that he's probably the kind of insecure douchebag who can only score with significantly younger women because women his age want nothing to do with him. I didn't hate him as much as Sucks did, but yeah he really was a prick and I always hate watching men in their 30's with a teenage brain. It's sad.
