I think that's absolutely true. The abuse from the whackjobs at clinics is pretty awful. If you're one of the few in an area or one of the few in the country who provides services, you're going to get more abuse. They go crazy for the late-term abortionists and glue their locks and torment and protest. I volunteered at a clinic as one of the people who met the women in the parking lot and helped them get past the protesters. It's horrible to hear what they say to them. I can't imagine living with that every day when I showed up for work.

The bottom line has to be that Dr. Tiller was not breaking the law. Kansas law requires 2 doctors to agree the abortion is "medically necessary" and if all that paperwork was in order, he wasn't doing anything illegal. If the shooter believes he was doing "God's work" by executing the "baby killer", how is that different from the neighbors' dog telling Son of Sam to kill people? I hope the nutjob gets the chair.

My position is that if you don't believe in abortion, you shouldn't have one.

I'm all for free speech but this guy needs to be stopped. What is needed is for people who are tired of this guy's lies and distortions is to write his sponser's and express their outrage that the company is supporting this idiot. Money talks, even on Fox News.

Dr. Warren Hern, a physician who provides late-term abortions, is threatened on a daily basis by anti-choice protesters. In this clip, from last night's PBS special, "Are Some Anti-Abortion Attacks Domestic Terrorism?" Hern shares his thoughts on the matter.

The entire 25-minute video, posted below, is worth watching; it's an incredibly powerful piece that shows just how brave these doctors have to be simply to provide a legal service to women on a daily basis. Along with Dr. Hern, the special also focuses on Dr. LeRoy Carhart, a colleague of Dr. Tiller's who gave the eulogy at Tiller's funeral and who, as Anna N. noted last Thursday, will be stepping in to fill Tiller's shoes.

This is not an easy piece to watch: the amount of hate that spews forth from a number of these anti-choice organizations, and the fact that they are allowed to continue with such behaviors, is, as Dr. Hern notes, incredibly terrifying and infuriating. However, the clip proves what we've known all along: that Dr. Hern and Dr. Carhart, as well as all of the other doctors, nurses, and clinic workers who risk their lives everyday simply to do their jobs are all amazing people, and their strength and dedication to providing a safe and legal option for women is a truly bright spot in an increasingly dark and frustrating chapter in American history.

Here's the big problem with third term abortions in Kansas:

Kansas law allows abortions on viable fetuses after the 21st week if carrying the pregnancy to term would endanger the mother's life or cause a "substantial and irreversible impairment" of a major bodily function. Courts have interpreted a "major bodily function" to include mental health.

That just begs for abuse.

Well said, factoryhurl. I saw an interview with another doc about how it is increasingly difficult to fill physician's jobs in clinics that perform any type of abortions. I mean, why take a job as a doctor at average (or more likely, below average) pay when it's sweetened with weekly death threats? If you wanna make some low-risk cash, the way to go as a doc is dermatology.

they interview two doctors and the harrassment and guard that they are under. they both have decoy cars and security detail. they pulled up sites where these kooks have posted their home addresses, google maps, their kids photos , license plate #'s and RL info.....it's terrorism.

Just check out ohboy's own video. 3:30 in the head of John's Hopkins Psych says that Tiller's own records state some of the "health of the mother" reasons were "I can't go to parties" or "I can't play sports anymore" to "I could never give my baby up for adoption."

Real good reasons to off a third trimester baby.
