The Iranian government must understand that the world is watching. We mourn each and every innocent life that is lost. We call on the Iranian government to
stop all violent and unjust actions against its own people. The universal rights to assembly and free speech must be respected, and the United States stands
with all who seek to exercise those rights.
Martin Luther King once said - "The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice." I believe that. The international
community believes that. And right now, we are bearing witness to the Iranian peoples' belief in that truth, and we will continue to bear witness.

Gobs of money delivered for W to "destabalize" Iran and to "foment tribal hatred." Kurdistan is our silent partner in this.

What works here is not going to work there. Period. The Grand Ayatollah could step in tomorrow and say, "You know, you guys are right, Mousavi gets to be President," and not one thing would change in the grand scheme of things. The President is a puppet, and the Iranians know it. Women will remain without rights, dissenters will be imprisoned, fags will be hanged, and life will go on. Even most of the protestors are afraid to fucking speak in their rallies, and the best chant they've managed to whip up is "ALLAHU AKHBAR," because just speaking against the mullahs can get you locked up and tortured. To their credit, they showed up for the game, even knowing the game is rigged. The original Islamic Revolutionaries had weapons. These Greenpeacers don't, and passive resistance isn't going to fly. No amount of international pressure is going to break that regime. They laugh at trade restrictions, because they're sitting on a shitload of oil. The mullahs have made sure that there's no chance of them losing power in the near-term. It will take decades for the youth doing the protesting today (the median age of Iranians is 27 years) to rise through the ranks of the various bureaucracies and start forcing change from the inside out, but that's how it's going to happen. Remember the fanaticism of the Revolution? That was only 30 years ago, and the mid-level functionaries of that machine are still fairly young, and they're running the show now. |

For those of us with sordid pasts who refuse to use Facebook, here's the same vid that was posted before. The alleged story is that Neda, the young woman,
and her father were just watching the protests but some dood decided to shoot her in the chest. Few things are as horrid as the deathwails of a parent. Of
course, some bloggers are saying it's a fake, but whatevs.
And one day, inshallah, I will be reincarnated as one of this woman's breasts:

Until then of course I'm going to dismiss testimonials that DON'T EXIST as not significant. It just isn't logical though that a people in a country that has been hostile to America for 50+ years for toppling their democratically-elected government and replacing it with monarchy (because Britain and the US couldn't have Mossadegh nationalizing the oil industry) is going to look at their neighbors getting shiny new governments through American intervention and think... gosh I want that too! These protesters don't need inspiration from Afghanistan and Iraq to influence them to protest and fight for their own freedom because they live in a country that glorifies freedom fighters and the idea of revolution, no matter how fucked up and fascist this islamic "republic" wound up becoming after the shah was deposed. I would guess some in the younger generation (70 percent of Iranians are under 30) born after the revolution see this as their revolution and Mousavi was certainly cultivating that sentiment with the statement he made today. |

I'm not going to say anything insightful (do I ever?), but have you all seen the vid that's been playing on CNN of this older dood in A LOT of pain,
yet desperately clutching his red, plastic VERSACE bag???
No comment, I just find it amusing. |
