I have never picked up a hitchhiker. I have forensics tests to support me on this point.

Both. Though does it count as "picking up a hitchhiker" when you stop, roll down the window, and ask them if they need a ride?

I went hitchhiking in the Finger Lakes. Meh.

i've hitched lots and picked up occasionally - you know, enough to satisfy karma. I've done two long distance, multiple rides, type hitch hiking trips.
it started with hitch hiking to high school on days when i missed the bus. eta - nothing bad or scary ever happened, some were awesome rides.

The hitchhiker I last picked up rolled off of the seat and onto the floor under the seat. It was sort of awkward, |

I can tell you that hitching in Stowe Vermont is very safe. I was on a commercial there for a few years. so Everytime they picked up my group they were all like....aren't you on TV? And the guy I picked up a few times I went to hs with and lived across the street and was the scary guy. but he was fine. no problems. |

One sat in the front passenger seat, the other in the backseat behind me. The one in the backseat kept lighting his lighter the entire 20 minutes. I never picked up anyone again. |

Hitchhikers are loads and loads of fun. Especially when you pick up a bunch of big menacing ones by yourself. |

Just once, my girlfriend and I were staying at another girlfriends house out in the sticks, and her boyfriend kept hitting on me and she was pissed, so we
decided to leave because he was being a jerk. We lucked out and got a ride in the back of a pickup truck. Everybody used to hitchhike in those days.

We used to all the time when we were kids (really little, like 9 years old). But we lived in a rural town with no public transportation and everyone understood
the only way up the mountain was an all-day walk or a friendly ride. You just stood across the street from the bar and whoever was going up the hill would let
you in. This was less than 15 years ago and yet it sounds ridiculously scary to me today.
The last time I did it was a couple years ago, drunk off my ass stumbling down the road at 2 in the morning. A taxi driver on his way back to the city picked me up and drove me straight to my house for free if I promised to never hitch hike again. |

Successfully hitched all the way from Ottawa down through New England to Boston for a Grateful Dead show in 1991. Our final ride took us 150 miles out of his
way, right to the doors of Boston Garden. He had hitched a lot himself back in the 70s to Dead shows and wanted to return the karma. Good times. Have picked
up a few since then, mostly young people out in our rural area who just want to get to the next village. They're buried in the back 40 now.

When I was a teenager, my boyfriend and I got into a fight and I stormed out of his car. Fucker drove off. It was 4am and I started walking the 10 or 20 blocks
home.
The roads were deserted. Suddenly, a car stopped and the guy asked if I wanted a ride. IT WAS A CAB!!! He took me home but the nice cabdriver gave me a lecture on being out late. Okay, not really a hitchhiking story. I don't really have a point. |
