The Editors of a Reality Show don't have even a fraction as much control of the final product as the Producers,Casting Directors or Storyboard Writers. The only creative decision they may have that has an influence on the show is how the shot is framed in the 2-3 seconds when Survivor is cutting back after ending a Commercial break.
Well, honestly all the Editors do is edit a list provided to them. That's it. They don't have any say whatsoever.
When I say "editing" I mean the people who make the decisions. Let's just say I've seen shows shoot amazing dailies and then go with the worst take they shot for no good reason. I sense a lot of this with Survivor, where there is other stuff left on the cutting room floor in favor of somebodies vision.
That vision, again, generally includes glorifying certain personality types at the expense of showing the strategic involvement of those in the game.
