Weirdest ever: Balut...a Filipino delicacy consisting of a partially developed duck embryo still in the shell, which has been buried in the ground for a
period of time. I did it, but only once.
Second: Kimchi...Korean spicy coleslaw that has been also buried in the ground and allowed to rot JUST so. If you can get past the smell, it really doesn't taste that bad. Once, on a dare. Third: Somali style charred goat with vegetables...once again, buried in the freakin' ground! Notice a trend here? This is why I cook ALL of my food above ground now and forever! I think you'd agree that you have to at least TRY the local stuff, just to say that you have and to please your hosts. Right? |

pickled eggs are common in Montana and North Dakota bars
and pigs feet are common in the south, but I've never seen the other two I've eatend fried Rocky Mountain oysters |

The one thing I always wanted to try but never had the chance was eat those cicada bugs that come out every 7 years (I think). That, and a live octopus that
they serve chopped up on a plate and it squirms around.

One of my fave not weird things is boudin. Really, it's just rice and pork and spices in sausage casing,
but people who aren't from here act like I'm trying to make them eat something like, well, balut.

Yes, I did. And it was good. Incredibly dense with almost no fat.

I never had horsemeat, but venison is delicious. I Googled lutefisk and it doesn't look that bad. I'd probably try it.

carol, it's kinda stinky (lutefisk)
horsemeat is like a slightly sweeter beef and I love venison, but I'll pass on the antelope as the one we shot and ate was decidedly gamey tasting (thankfully soy sauce covers most tastes) |
