So my computer keeps getting stuck in "sleep" mode. Any idea what would cause this? Nothing works to turn it back on but turning off the power and
starting it up again. I fucking hate computers.

I have a brand new Dell laptop that is doing the same thing. BRAND FUCKING NEW!
Update the Bios? I haven't tried it. |

Disable 'Sleep' mode.

Are you running a version of Windows? If yes, go into your control panel, select power options and uncheck hibernate. This should help.

Hmm, maybe our problems are different. Mine doesn't go into sleep mode unless I put it there, but waking it back up is the problem (not all the time).

Try shaking it. Shake it good. Shake it real good.

I think shaken laptop syndrome negates the warranty.

Who said anything about the laptop?

Have you tried unchecking hibernate liked I recommended? If it's still entering sleep mode and doesn't allow you to exit that mode try turning off the
computer and waiting 10 minutes. Turn it back on and see if that helps. If not, reboot your computer and enter bios setup and manually disable power features
(but do this carefully, it's easy to reset or change the wrong thing which could result in your computer acting worse or even catching fire.)
Just out of curiosity on my part, is your hard drive making any noises like that of a screeching tire or crying girl? |

OK done. What would cause this though? Power supply? I installed a stronger power source when I got my new video card and it has been fine since December.

It's working now? That's great! It could be the new power supply, then again maybe not. Have you recently dropped it or accidentally kicked it? Check
the fan to make sure it's not overheating and avoid getting it wet (i.e., keep it away from coffee mugs and moist shower towels).

Have you checked to make sure the vent is dust free and your fan is working properly? If your core gets too warm, your computer can freeze up or shut down
until it cools off.

Totally unrelated, but this guy on FreeCycle was giving away a Dell server that he can't get working: Dual CPU, 4Gb RAM, SCSI RAID, redundant power... for
free! Probably draws more power than my air conditioner, but I love a challenge!

How old is your video card? I had this same problem for a few weeks and it went away after i happened to install a new one.

The video card and power supply are only about 6 months old. So another problem (probably related) is when I am playing a video game (wow or whatever)
sometimes the music starts skipping. Has never done this before. And sometimes the game freezes for like 2 seconds and when it does this the power pack (or
fan) makes a sort of winding down noise like it is about to turn off.
