In a press conference called minutes ago, Alaska's Governor Sarah Palin has announced she will not run for re-election and is stepping down as governor. She had a brief statement. She took no questions after stopping to pet a baby giraffe Sarah Palin did not relinquish the reigns of the state during her vice-presidential campaign. Sean Parnell challenged Representative Don Young in last years primary and lost. Lt. Governor Sean Parnell will step in to the roll as governor at the end of the month. WASILLA, Alaska - At an 11:00 a.m. press conference today, Governor Sarah Palin announced that she would not seek a second term as governor. The governor continued, saying that by the end of the month she would resign from the governorship. On a day that most public employees have off, Palin sent out an early morning press release indicating that she would be giving an announcement from her home in Wasilla. Joining Palin were her parents, family and state commissioners. Palin announced that she will transfer power to Lt. Governor Sean Parnell. Parnell will be sworn in during the upcoming governor's picnic in Fairbanks. An emotionally choked-up Parnell said he plans to keep all state commissioners and continue to pursue a natural gas pipeline. Palin did not field questions and would not give any indications as to her future plans. Stay connected to KTVA.com for future updates. And yeah, I find it hard to believe she would quit basically a good year before the Presidential campaign gets up and running... she surely knows she will be accused of having to "go away for a year and bone up on basics of world leading" to the extent to which she has to resign from governing the big teddy bear state.
