I know I said that I'd have the first ranking up by Friday, but as of last night, I had been up for 32 of my last 36 hours, so I did not have the energy to
write something up. But here it is, my first ranking post! How exciting. :)
#13: Brian -Survivor: Guatemala Redux -10th place
This really should be no surprise to anyone that has played several games with me (including Guatemala). Brian was so dry and boring that I don't think anyone, including myself, really liked him. That's not to say he was hated, he was just…nothing.
I will admit that the reason for Brian's lack of excitement comes from Survivor: Nepal. I was in another game at the time and took the opportunity to play in two games at once, and boy do I regret it. I ended up having to establishing one active game, and have the other on the side. Well, I was already well-into Nepal, so unfortunately, Guatemala and Brian got the shaft. I then vowed never to play in two games at once ever again (a vow which I would later break). I don't think the poor play had anything to do with SurvivorFan429 or his game; it was just my lack of dedication to it, and I felt really bad for wasting a spot.
Brian really didn't do anything in the game. He played the game from inside Stephenie's (ChaperaRocks) ass. On Day 1 when EVERYONE was saying that working with Stephenie is a huge risk because she was too big of a threat, what do I do? I tell Stephenie how much I like her and know her history, so I propose F2. =D She and Bobby Jon returned from Palau, and were the only two open-ID players. I could not tell her that I was her friend in Palau as Katie, but I did everything I could to make me her #1 because I knew that in Palau she never turned her back on her #1. It turns out that BJ was her #1 in Guatemala as well, so I got kind of screwed. But after he left, I think Stephenie was fully loyal to me.
I ended up being TOO loyal to Stephenie. At the F10 endurance
challenge, I chose to sit out to earn an advantage at the next challenge. F10 was a spam challenge, and I think we all
know how pointless it is to take on Stephenie in that.
Brian really did sacrifice himself for Stephenie by putting a target on his back simply for being so close to her. I was hoping that she'd go on to win the game so I could take some responsibility for it, but no. She was too much of a g.oddess and the others were jealous. But I did end up getting a jury vote because Amy was a no-show at FTC. And it became the first time I ever voted for the loser at FTC. In the past, I had always voted for the winner. It was a fitting end to Brian, I guess.
Had I had the time for Guatemala, I think I could've done much better and had a bigger personality. Brian is a great character, which is why I picked him. But I really did nothing with him, which is why he ranks the lowest. The only move I made on my own in the game was aligning with Stephenie, which is pretty pathetic if you think about it. Without Brian, the game would've been exactly the same, if not better (for everyone except Stephenie). For everyone else on the list, I can say that they added a little something to their respective games, but I can't say the same for Brian. Even his confessional was as dead as his personality.
Who will be #12?

Pity post! =O
Playing two games at once <333 You made the right choice in putting more effort into Nepal it seems. Wasn't Cirie your highest placement at the time? =p 10th place...does that mean you were the merge boot? Gross. |

It was supposed to be Stephenie, and since I had my head up her ass, once she was immune, I guess it was my turn. For the first time, I don't think I was voted out for being a threat. XD P.S. Thank you for the pity post. It was much-appreciated. |

Next one...
-Survivor: Warriors -12th place
I'll start off by saying that this is my worst finish in my almost-two years of ORGs. Although she did worse than Brian, I do rank Amanda higher because she had a few (though not many) things going for her as far as playing the game goes. She had a strategy and she had a plan. Brian really didn't think like an individual and allowed Steph to walk all over him.
Going into the game, it was my third ORG and the first non-FML game for me. We started as 18 people and no tribes. It was the first time I had experienced having open communication with so many people. Now, the one thing I seriously lacked in my first three games is socialization skills. I was sociable, but only to the people I talked to. If I found it hard to talk to someone, I would just stop talking to them. It's a really stupid thing to do; I don't recommend it. However, I did get lucky in Warriors because when we were divided into two tribes of 9, it basically worked out so that the 8 people I was with were the only 8 people I really talked to in the game. It was off to a great start. But then, Amanda got lazy in communicating with everyone else. I made an alliance with three people and really only focused on those three. I never talked any game to anyone else because I thought that this alliance alone would get me where I needed to go. I couldn't be any less wrong.
Overall, Amanda just played a piss-poor social game, and she wasn't much of a personality either. She was delusional. Back then, I thought that old tribes would stick together, and I learned the truth the hard way when I was voted out. Going out at 12, you don't add much to the game. The only purpose I served was my eviction telling my alliance they were screwed. For some reason, I thought that by making one alliance, I'd be guaranteed safety. Man, was I stupid.
So out of the 18 people in the game, I would only consider myself close to 3 of them while in the game, meaning I maybe exchanged one or two messages a day with the rest. That's pathetic, and really horrendous strategy. Looking back, I really have no idea what I was thinking during the game. Did I not know what would happen if I continued this? I must not have.
What ranks Amanda above Brian is the fact that she gave it a better effort.
I got more out of playing as Amanda than I did as Brian. Although I was playing a pretty bad social game, I had
the strategic one sort of going and I was having fun with it. I had an alliance, and was starting to process what I was
going to do in the future: who I would work with, who I would target, etc. That never really happened with
Brian. As Brian, I didn't really bother with long-term strategizing. While
as Amanda, I tried a lot harder to do well, so I ended up having more fun. It just goes to show that the more you put
in, the more you get out. And although unsuccessful, I felt like I got more out of Warriors than Guatemala because I
did more for myself. But in terms of a better character, Amanda isn't much higher than Brian. It's just that I personally enjoyed playing as her more, so she gets #12 instead of #13.
And also a fun note: I can say that I got to play with THE Bubba from Survivor: Vanuatu and THE Mary from TAR 10/11 in an ORG. How cool is that? Actually, I kind of hated them in the game, but it was cool to know that they were in it in the first place! |

This is a sad update.
#11: Ashley - Survivor: China - 7th Place This was my first character that I had ever played as in an ORG. Some people start off with really great characters, and for others it takes time. For me, it took time to develop into more significant roles in games, and I think those who started out with me would agree. As much as I have a soft spot for my first game, Ashley just can't do all that well in this ranking. I was a TOTAL n00b in this game, and any experienced player could probably be amused by how obvious it was. But of course I was having an absolute blast every day because it was the first time I was actually playing survivor (and not just competing against computer players in the two games - which they need to make more of, btw). I fell in love with it very fast, and even before I was voted out, I was asking FML if I could play in his next game. He's a great host, and I'm really glad that I started out with such a great experience. Had I not had fun, I don't think I would've continued, and where would I be without ORG's, and where would ORG's be without me? I don't even want to think about it. =O As far as Ashley goes, she wasn't very exciting. For the first two rounds, she was in the majority of her tribe, and it turned out that she was there by mistake. Erik/Jaime/Sherea had an alliance and brought in Dave, and Dave told me about it, so I thought I was in. Dave was not told about Sherea being in the alliance, so neither was I (sounds familiar, doesn't it MG?). After the swap, I became very scared. I was on a tribe with 4 Fei Longs and 3 Zhan Hus...so I was in the minority. And I think that I had done well in challenges at that point, so I was their first target. Then I found the great and wonderful Todd (aka recyclehumans/dietgreentea), and he took me under his wing and said that he liked me and wanted to see me stay over Frosti (another Zhan Hu on the tribe). I don't think I did much work to get the vote changed, but Todd did a lot, and to this day I'm grateful for it. We lost immunity at F12, and Frosti was voted out like I hoped for, thus saving my life. I really think that had I been voted out at F12, I'm not sure if I would've had the spirit to try another game, since at that point, I wasn't really involved too much. I know DGT likes to hear this kind of stuff, so I'm going to go ahead and say that had it not been for DGT, I may not be as into ORG's as I am now. So thanks bro for seeing whatever you saw in me and voting to keep me in. ;) At the merge, Zhan Hu had the majority, so obviously I think that I'm guaranteed F6 because...old tribes NEVER betray each other! Of course, I was wrong, and Erik turned, choosing to vote out Dave (my closest ally). We still had the majority, so I thought I had a chance still, especially with Erik having an "in" with Fei Long. But at F9...yeah, Erik was blindsided because NOW Sherea/Chicken flipped because they were distrusting of Erik. Ay ay ay, I was so confused. COULDN'T THE TIGERS JUST STICK TOGETHER? It was clear at this point, that being so far out of the loop, I was done for. Jaime ended up having to step out of the game at F8 because I think Ravu Rules's job was at risk or something because he was at the board so much (correct me if I'm wrong). Alas, I made F7, but did not manage to win immunity, so I was voted out. I was very sad, but I was determined to redeem myself the next chance I had. As much as I loved Survivor: China and having it as my first ORG experience, Ashley wasn't as great as some of my later characters turned out to be. She was never in charge, she followed everyone even to the point of losing the game for being so mislead, and she really didn't have much of a personality. I think I would compare her to Jenn Lyon a little bit. She thought she was safe, and then once the blindside came (Erik/Gregg), she knew she was done for, so she had to step up her game. She tried, but it was just too late and she had been left out of plans. And plus the UTR(P) rating, and plus that I like Jenn, but know that she's not one of the BEST survivors out there. Yeah, I actually think Jenn is a good comparison, though I could be way off. It's just the only one that comes to mind right now. =P So like Jenn, Ashley is liked, but just can't be that high in a ranking of characters. Though she and Survivor: China are definitely heartwarming memories for me. So young and naive, but so at peace and happy too. I think it'd be really fun to travel back in time and play the game how I am now. I think that'd be really interesting to see how much better (or worse?) I would do. |

China was amazing, but you're right, Ashley isn't nearly as good as most of your other characters. If you had to rank the games themselves though,
China would be way up there, I think.

Jeff P3 wrote: For as much that happened, definitely. I don't think it was ever too predictable until F4, when it was just four Fei Longs left. Zhan Hu really self-destructed, and looking at it from the outside and not having to go through it, it was amazing. So much going on and every round was completely different. It was very exciting and a great game for sure. |
