Every time I see a show like this, I end up having a massive spring cleaning. Am I the only one?

I just tagged a bunch of stuff for the junk pile.
I was planning on clearing out some stuff but I think it may happen sooner rather than later. |

My Uncle's gf moved into my grandmother's house and did the same thing with one of the rooms (after filling up 2 of her own houses) and she would not let my grandmother throw out her old food. It is a mental illness with a very poor prognosis. Unlike other reality shows, I don't find this entertaining. These people are not going to be able to be helped, really in the long run. It made me realize that the producers of Clean House somehow avoid the true nutcases for that show-- they have hoarders but they must screen them psychologically or something because altho those people are packrats and have turned their homes into shitholes, they look spotless compared to the people on Hoarders. |

Yeah, the dad looked like he might take out the entire family in their sleep with bits of his broken aquarium collection. I just don't believe that the
wife had "no idea" how to organize. She called the floor of the hallway a laundry basket so she knew that such an item existed. She was just fat and
lazy. I don't understand how the threat of losing your children doesn't motivate you to, at least, take the shit off the floor! And did anyone notice
the walls? Covered in crayon marks, I take it they are lazy parents when it comes to watching their children too.
Crazy Cat Lady- dear GOD....she needed medication. I almost vomited when she was cleaning out that disgusting fridge drawer. She never even acted like she smelled anything bad while the organizer was puking outside! WTF? How do you get immune to that? |

I'm echoing earlier comments when saying that the married couple were making me angry. Let's see, if the choice was your own children or the aquarium
and bricks, which is the obvious choice?
The lady with the rotting food in her house made me sick. No way in hell I would let my house get like that, or in that state. And if it did, I'd be damn sure to clean it. She was content with her smelly-ass house, and I felt sorry for her. She needs some help, and I hope her therapy works out for her. That's not to say that she wasn't inspiring; there was some yogurt in the fridge, so I had some today so they wouldn't be in there for another year. |

I thought the younger couple about to lose their kids appeared to me that the husband was the real mentally ill one, and that the wife was just a lazy cow that
went along with his obssesvive/compulsive disorder to get out of cleaning up the house.
I felt super sorry for the kids. The older woman's segment was like nothing I'd ever seen before. The house should have been leveled to the ground, and she should have been sent packing to a looney bin. I felt truly sorry for her son and her sister.

I worked with a woman who I think was a hoarder. I was told her kitchen was so full of stuff she only left herself a 12x12 inch space on the countertop to cook
with. In the office she would never throw away those plastic trays deli platters come on from the grocery store, AND she had a closet full of old UPS
calendars. I threw them out telling her if 1985 came around again I would buy her a new one. She was REALLY surprised when she came back from medical leave and
all I threw away when she wasn't there. He son was taking care of her and he made her go to one of her storage units and he started throwing away his old
toys and stuff and she freaked out saying she was saving them for his kids. He told her they were his to do with as he pleased, and he would buy his kids new
toys if they wanted them.

They should have made that fat bitch actually eat some of that food she was hoarding. I doubt she would have.

You people seem to be forgetting that this is a serious MENTAL ILLNESS. It's like schizophrenia. Let's make a show where we laugh at schizophrenics for all the fucked up things they do. They choose GARBAGE over children because if they get rid of the garbage they have a massive physical & emotional nervous breakdown..they have tried many, many times before to throw stuff out because before it got so bad they have interventions and services come over and people try to help them throw the crap out. The KNOW their lives are fucked up by the garbage yet they cant let go.. The garbage makes them feel normal. It's like taking heroin away from an addict- but worse because a person doesnt need heroin to exist (once detoxed) but hoarders need the garbage to function normally and once de-cluttered can't breathe unless they surround themselves again with clutter...it has a very poor prognosis. |

I caught this show last night and I was about to puke myself with the food lady. I didn't get the "well it's not puffed out so it's good to
eat" What's the puffiness about? They put dates on food a reason you freak. Yes, I know it's an illness but come on.....they really should have
made her eat that chesse that expired in 2007. Other lady was just too lazy and obsessed with buying stuff to care about her kids being taken away. I would not
even set foot in someone's house that looked like that.

i thought younger fat woman was just a nasty poorly raised lazy loser.
but yogurt from 2007 woman is seriously mentally fucked, and if they had asked her to eat that old food she would have. |

Food lady was by far the most fucked up of the two cases, everything from the food to the cats to the fly trap that had all those dead bugs (which do stink,
btw).

Ethel Mae Potter wrote:I complete, COMPLETELY, agree with you about it being a poorly diagnosed mental illness. What put it into perspective for me was an older episode of Obsession. With that poor man who wouldn't part with his dead mother's belongings and gifts. He had to handle various items before parting with them. And the anxiety written all over his face... The hard thing for us non-hoarders is that it looks like mountains of trash, not desperately needed 'things'. Once that sinks in, it is a bit easier to understand. At least for me. I know when I am getting lost in my head when stuff starts to accumulate. My mom calls me a packrat because I save paper related items, but when it gets too much, I do a big recycle and I am good. It never gets really bad, but I know what could happen if it did. So I hear ya, EMP, I hear ya. |

Just finished watching the new episode. I don't know how that organizer lady cleaned that bathroom. Maybe when the cameras stopped rolling, some cleaning
crew dude came in. Just gross. Surprised that she was able to get the guy (steve?) to have pretty much everything thrown away. I guess even the mentally ill
can see that it was all TRASH!
As for the lady that couldn't finish her house, that was sad for her son who put so much into trying to get things done. I think he just wanted to bulldoze the house which probably wouldn't be such a bad idea at this point. |
