If Joan had that much control over the material, I see why Lisa was either not invited or not allowed to roast.

I still enjoyed the roast for what it was, but I think for the future, lets stick to getting people like Saget (who truly considered it an honor, as did the roasters) or "main-stream" celebrities (I use that term loosely with Joan) like Whoopi, who I would assume won't put restrictions on what material can and cannot be used. |

Whoopie already had a Friar's roast. Her boyfriend at the time was there and caused a bit of a stir.

Do people really like Lisa Lampanelli? I'd rather watch Larry the fucking Cable Yokel than her.

Is Lisa the fat, horse-faced, fugly bitch who reads her notes like she's reading a book with her head down the whole time? Can't stand her. |

She is PC in her personal life. As a comedy tool, she is an excuse for a lot of black dick jokes.

I think that Joan did something (or let someone do something) horrible to Melissa at some point in her life, hence this over protective shit she pulls on a
grown ass, plastic woman.

Re-watched (most of) the Roast last night. Wasn't as enjoyable, but that is to be expected... I knew it wasn't the Saget Roast!
Giraldo, Cummings, and Gotfried were defintley tops with Ross and Garrett both very good. It's obvious that Joan was really only there for a pay-day, which doesn't make her the first, but for her to go on record before the roast saying she hates Roasts, kind of takes me out of it. Still an enjoyable Roast though. |

It was so ridiculously off the wall that I didn't even feel sorry for Joan.

Okay, my new favorite saying came from this roast, but I can't remember who said it: "Diva is what you call a *$%+ while she's still in the
room." Any ideas who said it?

Strangely enough it was Tom Arnold, but I agree it was the line of the night. I wonder where he got it?

I thought Lisa was pretty funny the first time I saw her special. Seems like subsequent specials she just recycles the same type of joke over and over. I
don't mind a good racist or gay joke but it seems that's all she does. It just loses its shock value for me after a couple times, as I've not heard
her do anything but that. I think she is a funny woman and I get the appeal, but I just grew tired of the same type of joke over and over again.

It's not her actual JOKES that are funny, but rather the spectacle of getting to know her targets in the audience as she makes them squirm over the course
of the show. It's their participation and reactions that make me laugh...

Well, she is an insult comic, and she's not so different from Kathy, whereas Kathy's humor tends to be focused on celebrities (especially those who are
tabloid fodder), Lisa's is on insulting every demographic by stereotypes. They definitely play to the same audiences.

Robin's set was so good because she had Sal, Richard, Benjy and Artie help or write it for her. Lampinellie is funny but she is just doing a updated
version of Don Rickles act. I liked the line " They should call you Van, because your sitting between a Dick and a Dyke.
