It will be between Survivor and Bones.
But I dont think Survivor will have anything to worry about. |

Survivor's audience is pretty much built-in at this point. Even if the show was to drop to 8 million per week, I think CBS would still be quite pleased.

None of those shows are even going to touch Survivor's numbers.

Survivor has been high in ratings ever since.

Survivor has been stead over 13M every week. A new show, especially a sci-fi themed is lucky to get LOST-like numbers nowadays which cannot be over 10M.
The 18-49 numbers will be closer though, but Survivor has been over a 4 demo ever since. Only dropped below 4 for like 4-5 episodes in S18, but as the anniversary season is looming around viewers will hopefully come back. |

Survivor has been steadily dropping in the overall rankings though.
Vanuatu/Palau - 6th/5th Guatemala/Panama - 8th/11th Cook Islands/Fiji - 13th/15th Gabon/Tocantins - 15th/19th I left out China/Micronesia because their increase was caused by the writer's strike. Survivor (especially the spring cycle) is in jeopardy of falling out of the TV network overall top 20. That is still good enoug for it to stay on the air but the it indicates that the show does have an expiration date. |

Survivor has no competition in the 8 on Thursday timeslot. Other networks probably don't plan their heavy hitters in that time slot because even though
Survivor's ratings have fallen in the past few years, it still wins it's timeslot every single week and has a very loyal fanbase. I read in a magazine
article that of all the shows on television, Survivor has the highest index of people who continuously watch season to season.

Vamp diaries starts a week before Survivor and 2 weeks before the others, so I'll probably DVR it to see if its worthwhile. Based on that, I'll
coinflip on which to DVR with Flashforward while I watch Survivor live. If I still like Vamp Diaries, hopefully I can watch the other one on line.

tullfan2 wrote: Yes. The drop off came from from casual viewers who realized that Survivor wasn't what they thought it was. If you recall though, the ratings stayed pretty much consistent until All Stars. Vanuatu and Palau had editing that emphasized strategy and challenges over the people themselves, which at least partially contributed to its lower ratings I think(In addition to antipathy from the general audience towards All Stars). And they have dropped off ever since. And MyPoody, you aren't that much more respected than I am around these parts. This place is mostly a cesspool anyway, so I'm glad that I'm not well liked. |

Who is sick of the HII? People on these boards? Yes they are. But I have several friends who are casuals fans of the show and the only time they were ever sick
of exile/HII was when Sugar kept going in Gabon. They didn't complain about it once during Tocantins.

Those aren't casual viewers. Casual viewers watch the show based on word of mouth. I haven't contacted Neilsen Media Research yet, but based on people who I know, they were actually into the social experiment and survival elements of the show. They didn't give a shit about challenge winners or tribal dynamics. |

Dr Will Hatch two point oh wrote:Actually Palau was a popular season with good ratings. With Vanuatu, the ratings dropped somewhat because the early episodes were slow and there were no standout characters. I'd say that there wasn't much antipathy from the general public because of All Stars. All Stars was the only season where a good majority of the audience stayed put to watch the Reunion show. The decline in ratings has little to do with the HII but rather that the overall concept is getting stale. How many tribal councils and vote out discussions are people going to watch until they get tired of it? Personally, I found consecutive stretches of post-merge episodes for the early seasons (Australia/Africa/Marquesas/Thailand) to be very boring because the contestants played too conservatively and were too weak and hungry to do much of anything. The HII and blindside antics of the post-merge for Micronesia beats the crap out of Ethan talking about Big Tom's boil or watching footage of the Barramundi tribe staring at the campfire. |

There are people who never watched before who hear about the HII and are like "this is kinda neat, I can see how people would get into that" 3
different people have told me something on separate occasions about the HII being interesting.
People here have the false assumption that their opinions matter. Infact their opinions are most often the polar opposite of casual fans. For the record, Casual fans make up 90%+ of the audience and ratings. I joke that whoever is America's favorite, or whomever the public likes, Sucks automatically hates, because they like to think they are smarter than casual fans. So pathetic. |
