Maybe Ruben won because there were millions voting against Clay.

Katharine isn't selling a whole lot more than Chris, and his album has been out for 10 weeks.

Somebody asked me today if I knew Taylor's album was out. I said, "Sure it came out back in the middle of December."
She was like, "I had no idea. I was listening to the radio today and they played a song from his album and one from Katharine's album. They all slammed Katharine and gushed over Taylor. But I never knew his album was out until I heard it on the readio." Granted, this is one of those more casual fans who wouldn't buy either album anyway, and only voted for Taylor last year because she thought he was more entertaining. That's why he won...simply because he's the kind of musician that's better seen than just heard. And this girl probably represents a bunch of those people. Not all of them get to see the daytime talk shows where Taylor did a lot of his appearances. Plus the weird single thing...I mean, I get that he wanted his fans to help choose the single, which says a LOT about him as an artist, and it definitely shows he doesn't really care about the sales figures as much as he does pleasing his fans. I suppose he figures if his fans are happy, the rest will follow. Chris is selling well because of the generic, overly commercial rock genre he's in. It's pretty simple. It's like a choice of house colors...you can go with earth tones or you can go with something a little more out there. Chris is like a forest green...a nice rich, acceptable color that doesn't stand out too much not afraid to be bold. Far more bold than beige or brown. Taylor is...well....orange. Some people like it, some people don't...it makes some people smile, it makes others cringe...and even those that like it may never actually be so bold to go out and get it. They get the greens, browns and beiges because it's comfortable and they don't want their neighbors to make fun of them. |

Oh, so now Taylor fans are embarrassed to buy his CD?
So many interesting excuses and justifications as to why his CD flopped. I suppose now that Katharine hasn't flopped completely like the SPs predicted non-stop everywhere in the last 3 months, new tinfoil hats and new stories have to be found. |

No, I don't think his fans are embarassed to buy his CD. I just don't think the average person is going to pick it up in favor of a rock album like Daughtry because it's more comfortable for the masses. It has nothing to do with embarassment. Although, some younger types might like taylor but won't admit it to their rock-loving friends.

Well, at least Taylor's getting a little radio play now.
The process is interesting regarding getting radio play. From what I'm reading, when people call requesting songs, many radio stations refuse to play them until they are hits. But how do songs become hits if people haven't heard them? There's the whole weird chicken/egg thing going on. And it's not just Taylor. Chris fans are saying they had the same problem in the beginning. The radio stations base their play on the Mediabase charts. And hi, Miss Alley!! Long time no see! Up to the same old tricks, I see! |

Quote: P A Y O L A Do you honestly think there was a huge number of callers dialing up dj's for "Gallery" by Mario Vasquez? Especially in light of his only selling 20,000 copies. I really don't want to rehash old history again, but what we experienced with Justin might shed some light on what happens. "Sorry" was supposedly released to radio two weeks after his CD dropped. When fans called they were told that RCA hadn't greenlighted airplay yet. When the single started playing it did decently and at one point even ranked higher than Aiken's TITN (my source on this is Ken Barnes from USAToday). Then suddenly it dropped like a stone literally overnight. It's clear at that point, RCA was letting the stations know that Justin would be getting no 'support'. At this point, with Taylor, Kat and Chris all having singles they're probably hedging and seeing were the chips fall. |

No. That shows that silly EyeFucking doesn't translate over the airwaves. That, and Pauler wasn't about to purchase 150K Guarini cds, no matter how smitten she was.

Did Pickler sell more than Kat in her first week. I thought her first week number was like 79,000 meaning she sold more than Kat's 62,000.

You can't really compare week to week numbers, though, unless it's the same week. Different buying patterns at different times of the year play a big factor, even 5-8 weeks apart.

Um, Katharine's CD did flop. 115K or whatever it's going to get is not the 300K that Taylor got or the 304 K that Chris got first week out. I'll go on record and say it's a good bet that she won't outsell Taylor the rate that she is selling. Expect next week's numbers to be cut in half and continue the downward spiral.
You can do all the comparing you want, the only CD to sale massively is Chris' (we can argue all day on why this happened but the numbers don't lie). The rest of them tanked and unless there's a massive improvement, the only success story of AI 5 will be Daughtry. The rest will be surrounded by mediocre sales and underwhelming accomplishments. On a side note, I do think that Elliott could be huge if he gets more of a major backing label and rival Daughtry's numbers. But not with an indie deal. |

Quote: Cum. Quote: Egghead will be opening fro Scott Stapp in a year. McPhee will continue to grow as an entertainer, she's become red hot. And surprisingly, Pickler will probably have some decent shelf life as a country lite singer/ personality. Taylor will be ( like Bo) opening at my local Norwalk Oyster Fest and The Big E fair in all likelyhood. |

FYI:
The first week sales of the first albums by the other 'second placers' Justin 57,000 Clay 613,000 (second non-Xmas album: 211,000) Diana 47,000 Bo 118,000 We'll see where Kat places, but assumedly somewhere in Bo land. |
