Namely, NBC, the network in fourth place, with the worst shows, that is dying a slow death. The following article ran on Nikki Finke last week: Wasn't NBC Boasting About These Shows? "Nothing Watchable Rest Of The Season" "NBC has axed Southland... I hear Trauma is next because of its ridiculouly excessive $3 million pricetag an episode. (When I screened the show, I was rooting for the helicopter to kill off every character...) My NBC insiders are letting Angela Bromstad off the hook, saying "she picked the best of shit" from Ben Silverman's failed development. "This is the last gift that keeps on giving from Ben Silverman." The insiders are even going so far as to give up on the rest of the primetime schedule for their network. "There's nothing watchable the rest of the year." Even midseason and spring of 2010? "Nothing watchable the rest of the season," I'm told. "Maybe Jerry Seinfeld's The Marriage Ref will work, but he's not even in it. This is not a fun place to be right now. And we committed to Jay Leno on the air for 2 years because he was worried we'd have an itchy trigger finger. It's an embarrassment for all of us. Maybe he'll get fed up -- he's not right now -- and then we can re-negotiate." This is beyond sad. It's the destruction of a brand." This could just be the usual Nikki Finke crap, however I think it's obvious NBC -- the network of Cosby, Seinfeld, ER, Cheers and Frinds -- has almost slid into oblivion -- Jay Leno flopping at the 10pm timeslot -- crappy shows limping lamely along -- Heroes, Parks & Rec, Biggest Loser -- their only true tentpole is a tired old law drama and its knockoffs -- its two new dramas are crap, meanwhile it cuts Southland, Friday Night Lights is on its last season and Chuck is being rolled out late -- its only shows of any relevance are 30 Rock and The Office Add in the ever decreasing quality of SNL and you have a network on life support. In fact, the only thing going well seems to be the NBC Nightly News, at the top of the ratings for some reason. Can this network be saved or should they retire gracefully? I do see a reality where the networks are pared down to 3 or even 2 in the near future. The old model of TV advertising is clearly out of fashion in a world of DVR and Tivo. Does somebody need to turn off NBC's respirator?

You put NBC's shows up against the field and the only people who would watch NBC are the ones who don't fog a mirror when it's placed under their nose. Except Chuck. Which is why they will cancel Chuck before this season is over-because NBC is run by the mentally retarded.

I am most shocked that they kept L&O:CI on a weekday and moved L&O to Friday nights. I'm not even a huge fan of the franchise anymore, it just seemed that Mariska Hargitay's plastic-y new from-over-the-summer stretched out mug would be better hidden in the death slot. Our house only tunes into NBC the same night as everyone else... Thursday. We love all 4 of the Thu shows though... I would watch Amy Poehler & Joel McHale do anything...

I believe it's the stinking up of the schedule by Jay Leno. Just retire already--your crappy 'comedy' is so over!

I think that's part of why it's failing so miserably. ABC has Lost, Desperate Housewives, and Grey's CBS has Survivor, The CSI's, their crime drama's and comedy block Fox has House, Bones, American Idol, Hell even the CW has their teen dramas with 90210, Melrose Place, Gossip Girl There's just nothing that really defines them as a network that they can center or rally around and go from there. It's really pitiful.

Chuck may very well get the can if it gets worst ratings then it did last season, which it very well could since it'll have been gone for almost a year.

Sami Brady is finally the most loved child. Take that, Marlena. I keep hearing people say the network will be better because they bought the new JJ Abrams show, but aside from Lost, haven't all his shows been ratings letdowns?

If it's on NBC then that is the only show I watch on that network. It was stupid of them to let go of Medium, and then to hold off on Chuck. And Jay Leno sucks, he sapped primetime, and even The View (on ABC) acknowledged this. Hell, I think even The View gets more viewers than the Today Show.

Also, I think that article nicely sums up why NBC is doing so poorly -- it cancels or moves around any good show that it has (Southland, Chuck, FNL). I agree that the Thursday night comedy line up is decent (Community is hysterical), but Thursdays have become too competitive. So instead of having some balls and putting its good shows in time slots they could win, they throw the few good shows they have against shows they can't win against. And they don't let their good shows build an audience. And who could possibly be surprised that Leno is a failure?

So, I'll watch it on USA, along with Criminal Intent. Tough break with that Jay Leno thing, NBC.
